I think the steering is assisted by an electric motor on your car - it has no hydraulic assist, and therefore no reservoir. The motor is most effective at low speeds, and at higher speeds provides little assist at all (when none is needed).

have you checked fuse and also that the wiring hasnt come loose at back of radio

This is a classic CV joint noise, you say you checked it, you mean you pulled the joint out and looked at it for wear on the ball bearings and guides then?
