Question about Heating & Cooling
Heating/Cooling starts but stops after a short time, which seems to depend on outside temperature (cooler temp - longer time working - abt. 5 min). After it stops it cannot be restarted by changing the set temp up or down. Same with the fan - in Fan Mode - fan does not start at all when hot temp outside, when temp cooled - fan works for about 5 min. and then stops.
Sounds like you need a new control board with thermistors. you probably have a relay that is getting hot and quitting.

be aware that not repairing this asap that you are causing yourself more problems First I would change out the fan capacitor and see if this could be the problem. Secondly if the capacitor isn,t the problem change out the motor . By continuing to allow the system to cycle like this the compressor will take a dive on you costing more . Good Luck

Testimonial: "Yes, it's dual run capacitor problem. I used a stick to spin the fan blades and it starts to slowly spin and up to normal speed, so motor is good."
SOURCE: master cool not cooling. Outside
I would bet that the problem lies in what you said about the pad. It needs to be well-soaked for the evaporative effect of the unit to do its job.
You give no model, but if you disassemble the unit (only the top panel) at the water distribution tube and expose it you can see what's going on. Water flow will be minimal.
The tube disconnects from the water supply tube at one end.
Disconnect it and, carefully since it's plastic, clear debris out of the distributor.
If it's like mine, it will have a fair amount of scale built-up in it. Once clear, re-assemble and start the unit.
