Windows 7 Home Premium on Dell Optiflex 760 desktop

This model was released in the Vista era but is not horribly old. I have updated some hardware from XP/Vista to W7.
However Dell does not list W7 as this model predates the OS.

However, microsoft lets you run compatibility tests with the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. See: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20

I would estimate your chances of success as very good - but check the MS Advisor.

Window7 installation

1) you have to make sure that you have ALL the required Windows 7 drivers for your Laptop AND additional devices/application (eg. Wifi adapter, Modems, USB DTV, External Keyboard, etc). 2) get and install a 'Windows 7 UPGRADE' for your current Operating system. (Check for free upgrade?) 3) Windows XP mode (and native Virtual PC) is only available if you upgrade to the Professional or Ultimate versions AND your CPU and BIOS support 'Hardware Virtualization' ... even my Intel Dual Core T4200 processor does not support this feature!!!
Hope it helps: let me know how you go!

How do I turn on my backlit keyboard on my dell with windows vista?

Hi,

Sorry for the last answer. The expert probably didn't understand your question.

If you have purchased the optional backlit keyboard, the right-arrow key will have the backlit keyboard icon on it. The backlit keyboard provides visibility in dark environments by illuminating all symbols on the keys. The settings for this keyboard can be personalized by using
Dell QuickSet.

Backlit Keyboard Brightness Settings – Press <Fn> + right-arrow key to toggle between the three lighting states (in the given order).
The three lighting states are:
a. full keyboard/touch pad brightness
b. half keyboard/touch pad brightness
c. no lighting

Hope this helps. If you need the manual for this computer, it is located here:

Thanks for using FixYa.
