SOURCE: only toasts part of bread

The solution I got from the FixYa team was: "Get a new toaster." Which is how I ended up with 4 new toasters that don't work. I'm glad I didn't PAY for THAT answer.

SOURCE: Bread toaster doesnt work

It could be the slide button connections or loose wires. You would have to take it apart to try and figure it out. It should be under warranty, though. I don't know if the box is required. You'll have to ask Back to Basics about that.

SOURCE: Russell Hobbs RH2T toaster bread won't stay down w/o hold handle

Hi, most new toaster have a selenoid that hold down the handle while toasting then release when done so a spring bring the toast up. Possible problem with the selenoid, the electronic circuit that controls it or the plate that the selenoid holds. When you lower the handle you close the contacts of the AC line inside the toaster so if the handle is raised there is no power.

SOURCE: Expensive toaster doesn't work

I broke mine trying to fix this, but the fix is very easy. remove the out shell and you will see two prongs with contacts that engage when the plunger is pressed. The plunger will not stay down because the prongs are bent and/or dirty. clean the contact, push the prongs closer to the contact and that should do it. Becareful about how you disconnect and reconnect the wires. That is the mistake that I made, and the fuse blew. BTW, if you fix yours, please let me know what kind of fuse is on it. The fuse is in a sheet in a cluster of wires between the two plungers.

Do I have to wait for the toaster to warm up or put the bread in then switch on

Letting the toaster heat up first before putting in the bread is really just a waste of electricity and is unlikely to improve the efficiency of the machine or the quality of the end product in any way.

Just stick the bread in and then turn the toaster on and it should work fine. Within a short time you will learn just how long you have to leave them in so that they are toasted properly according to your own personal tastes.

Good luck.

I have Sunbeam 'Radiant Contol' TOASTERMATIC toaster. Must be 40 years old - and only recently stopped toasting. Is there anyone who might fix this - I think the radiant coils have burnt out. I live in...

There could a number of reasons why it has stopped working and depending on the problem it could be a simple fix but generally not. It is after all an old toaster as you realise. On the bottom is a model number AT-35 AT-40 or TA-J. It depends on what part is sentimental as the outside and ends and base can be transferred over to a working mechanism. I have a few of these toasters and think they are just great.

How do you get melted sugar off inside of toaster?

use a damp cloth tied on a brush/stick to wipe the sugar residue off the bars. If it still does not help, then soak the cloth in lemon juice and scrub on the bars as it would also wipe out the sugar and would not affect the working of the toaster.
