Model # LSQ9549PWO
SOURCE: whirlpool top load washing machine - agitator
There are gears inside the agitator that are very cheap and relatively easy to change they are called agitator dogs. Dont forget to rate my solution as solved if i answered your question accurately.....Thanks!!
SOURCE: loose agitator
Remove the center dispenser. Under the dispenser is a plastic cap with a pull handle on it. Pull the cap straight up and you will find a mounting bolt underneath. Using a socket and ratchet, tighten the bolt snug. DO NOT overtighten as this may cause damage to the agitator. If you go to searspartsdirect.com and type in your model number, there is an excellent exploded view diagram of the agitator components under the "Agitator, Basket and Tub" heading. If you still require assistance, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

you can put a serch in you tube for" motor coupling repair" simple enough procedure, easier to watch then explain... part number 285753
SOURCE: need to tighten loose agitator on whirlpool
You need to pop the cap off the center post of the agitator, followed by removing the plastic cap and o-ring inside. The agititator bolt is located underneath. Tighten with (I believe) a 9/16 socket with ratchet. Tighten until snug. Do not overtighten as this can restrict agitator motion and may crack it.
Now, if you talking about the upper portion (auger) of the agitator slipping, you will need to replace the agitator dogs. The following link explains:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r823955-replacing_agitator_dogs
The dogs are small plastic teeth that are located under the center post cap used to grip the auger as it turns. They do wear out periodically and require replacement. If you go to appliancepartspros.com and type in you model number you can view them as item number 10 under the "Agitator, Basket & Tub" section. You can use the part number I provided in the link, or use the Whirpool part number on the website. Both numbers cross reference to the same part. A very inexpensive fix...

The plastic dogs are stripped inside the center of the agitator. To remove agitator pop off the top center cover(slot for screwdriver) There is a 7/16 inch bolt with standard thread, remove it and pull out agitator. Pull the agitator apart, you can stand on the bottom half and pull on the top, you have to reassemble it with the new dogs replaced(there are four in a package) Fairly simple, no special tools needed,
good luck.
