Do you have other phones on the same line?
Are they clear or do they have the static. If it is a telephone company old copper line and it happens on all phones it maybe a Telco problem.

SOURCE: no dial tone at all

if the non-cordless phones are ok, it sounds as if the cordless handsets are the only ones not working, have you charged the batteries on those handsets ok and are there any signs if life, eg lights or on-screen messages ? Are they switched off ?
If there are signs of life, check the level of charge, if dead completely, take it/them to the main unit and put on charge for about 10 hours, if they work for only a short time and you have had the phones for a few years, then you will need to replace the re-chargable cells as they don't last forever and they are not holding the charge.
Hope this has given you some clues.....

SOURCE: phones don't ring

Caller ID is a service that is provided by your telephone service provider and not the phone. If the phone company isn't sending your line Caller ID data, your phone won't display it. As for getting the handsets to ring, try pushing the volume up key while the handset is off, the more times you push the button, the louder the ring will get until you are at max ring volume. Also, some models have a "Do Not Disturb" feature which turns the ringer off. Without knowing which model phone you have I cannot tell you how to turn this feature on/off. but you can look it up in your manual online at http://www.uniden.com/index/manuals_results.cfm?cat=1

SOURCE: My BT Verve 450 digital phone set won't ring out /incoming call

My GE cordless handset won't ring when it's on the base charging but it will when I take it off. I've taken off the battery and disconnect the phone from the wall to try to reset it, but it still doesn't ring.

What is cause of Buzzing dial tone

This phenomenon is the phone lines and phone instrument rectifying the RF signal from your cell phone as it communicates periodically with the cell sites. The energy is rectified (turned into voltage) by the phone lines and appears as a buzzing pulsing noise in the home phone. This will trash a fax completely. There is NO solution except to turn off the cell phone or orient it away from phones and phone lines sufficiently to stop the interaction. You could put hte phone in a RF proof bag (metalized film) which would then prevent it from receiving an incoming cell call. Either way, you lose some usability of either home or cell phone for the duration of the issue.

check Grounding Connection. Also check Security Alarm interface

Static (buzzing) on your line are produced from analog equipment in your phone system (your phone and phone cable). When the phone adapter receives the sound data, it digitizes the data and eliminates the possibility of producing static or buzzing. Try using a different phone or replacing the phone cable and test if that resolves the issue.

not hearing a dial tone.

If you do not hear a dial tone, please check the following:

• Make sure the telephone and VoIP telephone adapter are plugged in

• Disconnect and re-connect the telephone cable

• Make sure your telephone is set to ring (not set to pulse) If the above items have been checked, it is possible your phone adapter needs to be rebooted.

• Reboot your equipment as described in "Rebooting Your Equipment."

• If this doesn't work, try the solutions as described in "Calling Issues with Firewall/Router"

Take care..

I hooked up a phone in the office on an extended line from another area and all of the memory buttons automatically worked, but the phone doesn't ring even after using feature *6 selecting a ring, and...

The easiest thing to do is use Direct Pickup Feature.
When the phone is ringing dial Feature 76
Dial internal number of a phone that is ringing (also refered as extension number)
You just answered a ringing phone at your desk.

If you have login information for Feature **config, I can help you set up your phone to be ringing as well.

We have a lot of static and loud buzzing on the phone

I had the same issue that started on some 3 year old 5.8 GHZ Uniden cordless phones. I moved it from room to room and same buzzing. I found a older Uniden set I had kept in a desk drawer. I swapped out the power transformer (power cord) and it is clear as a bell now.

Hpofficejet: will not receive fax. Sender is given our phone number, our phone is answered and we dial our code -- this no longer works. Cannot find manual. Do we reset the number and how, or what...

I just got a new line just for my SF-5100 fax. It was working before I switched to this phone company. I checked the line on a regular phone and it seemed ok. When I plug it up to my fax machine, when it rings I get this static sound instead of rings. One of my customers said when she tried to fax something, she got that same static sound and it would not go through. When I tried to fax her something, I dialed the number and when the fax machine was repeating the numbers it was a series of that same static sound. Then the operator said I should try my call again - so it did not dial through. A few minutes ago, the screen said RX also. Can you please help?

Picking up a call

@AlexaF

A couple of things to try. First, walk up to the phone that's ringing and dial 720# on the intercom. They may have set Call Pickup Deny (by dialing 721) and this will clear it.

If that doesn't work, you may have fallen out of the pickup group. You can test this by using the Directed Call Pickup code which is 4 + the ringing extension number.

If that works, but 40 doesn't, there's some programming(system prog 600) that needs to be examined. By default though, each phone is in pickup group 1.

Static from SoundStation Premier

Check the phone cable you are using for your POTS line. Attach a phone directly to the phone jack and see if it is clear or static without the device.
