How do I open a stuck Rival Microwave door without breaking the microwave? It is only three years old.

The door will not open. I have a plate of bacon in it. The door is stuck. How do you get it open without breaking the microwave. It is three years old from Wal Mart.

It's the bacon... it's holding the door shut

SOURCE: Stuck Microwave door

In most cases this is due to a broken door opening lever or loose or broken door latch / hook parts. They can only be accessed and examined if the cover is removed from the microwave. In many over the range models, you can access the door parts by removing the control panel assembly. Sometimes you may be able to get it open by pushing up gently on the bottom of the door while pushing the button, in case you need to empty it.

SOURCE: Sharp Microwave Oven

Quite often this is due to grease or food particles stuck on or behind the waveguide cover.

The waveguide cover is usually about the size of a playing card and often held in place by a plastic rivet.

It can be fragile, and the metal edges of the oven behind it can be sharp, so be careful!

The cover and the metal behind it should be cleaned with a mild, non-ammonia cleaner.

If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart or Lowe's.

If your waveguide cover is burned, it will need to be replaced.

You can order Sharp parts from Tritronics at http://www.wehaveparts.com

SOURCE: sagging frigidaire microwave door

If your door is removable, look where there is a plastic seal or ring on the door itself. It is usually attached to a bracket or near there someplace. I have taken plastic washers and put in place, otherwise replaced the parts that are worn out on the door assembly.

Tell kids not to pull on door while in use. Harder said then done. I have 9 children and they all have done this. My youngest still thinks he can microwave GI Joe to death.

Anyrate, if the issue I gave doesn't work, try your local appliance repair store. Sometimes they can help by either repair or giving advice.

Good luck.

My microwave, sparks fly and smokes - is it worth repairing?

If is an over range model and a good make, yes it is. If it is a counter top microwave oven made by Hinari, no it isn't. If it is a Sharp or a Panasonic and is less that 20 years old, it is *probably* worth repairing. You will get sparks and smoke if you use plates that are decorated with gold or silver. The microwaves react and burn it off. Don't put those plates in the microwave, or use low power.

'make model (what it is)' as the first three words in every question please. :>D

Runs when door is closed, stops when open!Checked the three door switches;all good. The mw is 5 years old so anyone have suggestions as i would be thanking U in advance

It is possible that a relay on the control board has stuck in the closed position. You can try tapping the relays on the main control board and this sometimes breaks them free. It still may be one of the door switches but I would suspect the control board or possibly a stuck start pad on the touch panel.

I have a microwave that is shooting fire inside. Where can I send this. It is definitely a bad item.

You're probably using something metallic or reflective, like aluminium foil to "substitute" for the missing glass turntable. Place the bacon on a microwave-safe dinner plate, and you should be OK.

I have a sanyo microwave oven,i went to use it and cook some bacon and after 3 minutes of everything working or so i thought, the bacon was completly uncooked and cold still on the plate!!! any ideas what...

Hello, Johnnyboyhyn -

Apparently there can be 8 reasons why the microwave is not heating.
* The diode has burned out
* The door switch has failed
* The magnetron has burned out
* The high voltage capacitor has burned out
* The high voltage transformer failed
* The thermal fuse needs to be replaced
* The thermoprotector failed
* The main control board failed

Read more about these failures here:
https://www.repairclinic.com/RepairHelp/How-To-Fix-A-Microwave/65---/Microwave-not-heating

You will need to find a Sanyo microwave authorized repair center near you. You may decide it is more cost effective to find and purchase a new microwave oven. If you do that, please make sure the old microwave goes to electronics recycling.

Best wishes.

Venting of microwave - house stinks of bacon

Interesting post, because I have the same problem! I have spent the better part of today researching and taking our microwave apart (partially) to inspect the top portion re: outside vent. Everytime the microwave is on, the "active vent door" (manufacturer's term, not mine!) opens. Apparently this is normal. But it also opens when you turn on the vent fan, when cooking on the stovetop. I don't like this feature, because I think it 'overrides' the outside venting system. I double checked our outside vent to ensure that when this oven was installed, the person did in fact allow the flap to be open when the fan is on (he did). So I think what 'our' problem is, is that the microwave active vent sort of interferes with the outside vent, thus more of the cooking smell being blown into the house instead of the outdoors. I was thinking of simply disconnecting the gizmo that make the active vent door open each time you use the oven and/or vent fan option however I don't think that's a good idea as apparently the main purpose of the active vent door is to keep the electronics of the microwave oven from overheating. The more I read about this version of microwave, the less impressed I am with it. Lots of electronic issues with it. I am not fussy either with having the microwave over the cooktop. Sorry I don't have a solution for your problem but I do feel your pain!!!

I have a 10 year old MH7130XE Whirlpool microwave oven. The oven and key pad both work, and the oven heats just fine. The problem is the oven begins running as soon as you open the door...without pushing...

I'm assuming you mis-typed and meant the oven begins running when you SHUT the door and stops when you OPEN the door. Please tell me this is what you meant! If the microwave oven runs with the door open, UPLUG IT IMMEDIATELY AND DO NOT USE IT!!!

If the oven begins running without pushing the start button then the controller is bad or the Start button is worn out and making contact without pushing it. (Most likely it is your controller.) Generally, it is not worth the cost to replace the controller on a 10 year old microwave. Probably time for a new one.

But if you want, you can call Whirlpool and see what they suggest at 800-253-1301.

If this was helpful, please select YES to the first two RATINGS questions. Good Luck!

Ge JVM1190 appears to be working but does not cook.

I spoke with a qualified microwave technician who advised me to buy a new microwave as the problem I was having indicated that the magnetron tube had blown. What a waste of time to ask for help from you.

Panasonic NN-2501 Microwave Oven range hood

It is possible that the magnatron is bad but hard to say on a no heat problem without checking all components. A lot of model give 5-7 yr warranty on that part.
