The rollers on the feeder can go bad and the best way to solve it is to get a new complete assembly. Check the website under your make and model for the assembly. YOu might also want to check for paper jam
Are there streaks on the copies you make?? Print out a report or list from your machine and see if the streaks are on the printed pages.
Open the feeder from the top of the machine...you will see a thin strip of glass maybe 1/2" wide running from the rear of the machine to the front..odds are there is glue/dirt/corrector fluid or some other dirt on the glass. Clean this off..once you can make a clean copy you should be sending clean fax's.
Mite be a problem with your doc feeder. Are you using a doc feeder? If so raise up the doc feeder and place an orgnial on the big glass instead of feeding the orginal thur the docfeeder. Does the line disappear? If it does then the **** glass the small glass used by the docfeeder has a mark on it or dirt. Is your machine a printer also? Does the print have the mark/line on them also. Do any of your machine's internal reports have line on them Meter Read print outs etc.
All you need to do is clean the top feeder which opens into two parts. make sure you clean the black rollers as well as the small strip of glass you will find when you open the second part of the top feeder . don't be afraid to pull open the top feeder it won't break
Try cleaning the rollers inside the scanner including the glass inside and out with a soft damped cloth. Look also for a piece of paper, staple wires, paper clips or pencil lead jammed inside the rollers or somewhere in the corner.
Also, look for a foreign object or substance on the cold cathode tube light and clean it. Try also cleaning the mirror.
Does this happen both when copying and printing? For printing solution, try another toner cartridge. If lines continue to appear when copying (primarily through the automatic feeder) then lift the auto feeder, and clean the glass -mainly the narrow piece on the left side.
have you watched the paper going through the doc feeder are thay goning one by one or is it pulling more then one. try making a copie withe 4 sheets does that work. if not open cover of doc feeder clean rollers. serperation pad. ( pad would be twrods the top of the cover )

There must be a strip of glass about one inch wide, next to
the large glass. There is the problem !
Clean that strip thourougly. When you use the feeder the pages
are scanned thru the small strip of glass.
