How to get direct drain option to actually work on my Edgestar DEP700EW dehumidifier?
Edgestar DEP700EW dehumidifier is filling the bucket even though the direct drain option is attached. It was working fine for about 2 weeks, but now the bucket fills up every day, and I have to empty it manually. How do I get the direct drain option to work again? I have the hose connected to the connector very tight but water still ends up in the water bucket.
I brought the unit out of my crawl space so I could see what is going on a little better. It turns out that most of the water is going through the drain hose, but is also coming out of another port inside the unit and into the bucket even with the drain kit attached. I contacted Edgestar, and they had absolutely no idea why water would be coming from both places. They suggested bringing it to a repair shop, but could not recommend a repair shop to me.I brought the unit out of my crawl space so I could see what is going on a little better. There is supposed to be an auto-shutoff float in the bucket to prevent overfilling of the bucket. You have either removed it or it is defective. The fact that it runs constantly has more to do with the humidity and the setting that you have the unit set to, Obviously there is adequate humidity in the space or the bucket would not fill. You need to look for, find, and repair the shut-off float, or, if possible, some units allow you to connect a drain hose either to the bucket or directly to the unit to drain the water to a drain. If you choose this option, remember that the hose must remain lower than the top of the bucket or it will not drain properly and the bucket will still overflow.
That would be the "Pump" button on the control panel. When you press it, your dehumidifier display should indicate "PUMP", and the unit should start pumping water out that little port at the center rear of the dehumidifier.
Alternatively, you could stand the dehumidifier on a counter and direct your waste water out the larger hose connection into a sink.
I personally carry it (more than five gallons per day) upstairs to the laundry, because it's distilled water - the softest water you can get. Works GREAT in the washing machine. 8) 8) 8)
2 possibilities: #1The port that you plugged the hose onto need to be drilled so the water can come out and enter the hose. #2 The hose cannot be higher at ANY point than the bucket. Physics rules apply and the water will always fill the lowest point. Keep the hose low or raise the dehumidifier up.
yes, there should be a bucket that fills with water, on the outside of the bucket, there should be a cap you can screw off, once off you can attach a garden hose to that bucket and the other end goes in the drain.
safety switch is turning off the dehumidifier....you need to drain out the bucket more often....or put the drain hose into an actual drain....ive seen some people run a small plastic hose from the dehumidifier to the sump pump hole in their basement.
