Hi it could be a couple of thing it could be low coolant and well plastic and aluminum radiators tend to let go sometimes depending on your engine seen intake manifolds leaking issues as well!!

My 2004 dodge ram 1500 (Hemi) is overheating at idle but does fine on the highway, what could cause this?

According to anandtech.com, Tom said: "If this only happens at idle and your fans are operating and your coolant level is good, my suspicion is the thermostat. "

2004 dodge ram overheating??

Hi,
Engine overheating?
1. Coolant level at cold
2. Coolant leak check for loss of, during "not hot" running condition. (water pump, hoses)
3. Replace the thermostat. It's inexpensive and easy enough to do.

Hope this helps... Good luck!
