My mom has this model bread maker, she had started with everything she was suppose to and the machine started to kneed the dough. About five minutes in the machine started smoking so she turned it off until the smoking stopped, turned it back on and it started kneeding and we heard te first beep. We look over and it was smoking again then the machine blew a fuse, she tried a different plug and the bread makers lid jumped a little with a loud bang and what looked like a strike of lightning. Any suggestions about what could have happened?

Sounds like a defective device. Suggestion is to return and get a new one.

check the underside of the basket. I have had problems with the lock washer, causing the wing nut to slip and not providing any turn to the shaft and paddle.

I don't know about your specific model, but in most bread makers there is a removable paddle that goes in the bottom of the bread pan after you put that in the machine. The paddle usually has a flattened side on the hole which slides on to the post sticking up from the bottom of the machine. If you look at the post straight down from above it should be D shaped. The usual procedure is to put the pan in the machine, install the paddle, and then add your ingredients. Assuming you are doing this and it is still not working, trying running it through a mix only cycle (like for pizza dough) with the machine empty to see if the paddle is engaging and spinning properly. If it is not, contact the manufacturer for assistance.

Some machines take 10-15 minutes to do anything. Give it at least 30 mins before assuming anything is wrong.

Clonking when kneeding dough and not mixing properly

A very clever microwave, making bread!
If and as I suspect you have a bread maker, the beater does clonk a lot as it mimiks the beating motion of making dough and proving. It will pick everything up and stir it in as it rises.

All I can tell you is that my Toastmaster instruction book contains the same types of warnings.
E-01, just means the oven is too hot, but warnings E-02 , 03,04,05 and 08 all say you should unplug the machine and call the manufacturer....Sorry for the bad news....

Kneeding seems to jam frequently

Hi, Take the bread pan and paddle out of the machine and see if the paddle spins freely by hand. If it sticks then the sealed bearing is failing. If everything is good here, check the tension on the belt pulley. The belt may be too loose to spin the paddle freely under load. Belt and motor is inside the base of the machine. Good Luck..Hank

The machine does not mix the bread and the loaves are not rounded. There is a lot of extra mix left on the sides of the loaf. I would like to find a place to get it repaired.

After the first five minutes, when the paddle starts into constant rotation, take a rubber spatula and peel the unmixed dough off the sides of the pan so that it will mix in with the dough ball as it's spinning. That was the solution for me.
