No. The 245 doesn't have a microphone input. Besides, the speakers for a home surround sound system are a bit too delicate for the distortion levels generated by karaoke.

Here's a $300 speaker (yes, $300 for a single speaker) wrecked from teens doing karaoke. They then bust it more messing around trying to push the tweeter cone together so the crack wouldn't be so noticeable

Can i use karaoke mic in harman avr 245 ? - 34422fca-12f6-46ab-87df-98709f7e5ba7.jpg

If you still want to go ahead with the idea then you'll need some other bits of gear. For simplicity sake I'd recommend a karaoke CD+G player. It will have mic inputs, vocal echo, and take care of putting the works up on screen.

The alternative is a mixer with effects (echo, reverb) - Cheap is Behringer Xenyx 1202FX

and a source device for music and graphics. This could be your PC, but you'll then need to go trawling for karaoke files and you'll need some software to play them and do the words. Sax & Dotty is pretty good software.

The PC sound needs to be connected to the mixer in a stereo channel. The mic goes in mono on a mic channel. The output of the mixer goes to the AVR on an AUX input.

SOURCE: can I conect harman Kardon avr 230 to apple tv

Yes, although it (AVR) does not support HDMI only component video.

Connect the audio to the receiver and the video directly to the TV if you have inadequate video inputs, or want to take advantage of the HDMI.

Try pulling the batteries out for 5 minutes or so, and see if that resets it to factory defaults.

Try pushng the 6/8 channel button on your remote control. That's what fixed my problem. FYI you need to push that if you use the SACD formt in order to get the surround sound also.

(1) Is it possible to have a bi-amp hookup to speakers that has twin wire lugs when playing just two front speakers, and how is it done ?. (2) can a regular microphone work in the microphone jack to...

1) Not with this unit. WHY bother? Sending identical program to two drivers over separate wires is the same as sending it over one pair.

2) No. Insertion of a microphone tells the unit you're doing setup. The microphone picks it up and sends it to a microprocessor for evaluation. The sound from the mic never finds its way out to a speaker. THAT would be a feedback loop and the tweeters wouldn't like it. (sizzle sizzle)

Harman Kardon AVR 245 Receiver PROTECT Error Message/Shutting Down All Equipment

could be your receiver only, it has tripped due to discrepancy on the output stage of your amp. that cracking sound in one of your speakers could have caused the trouble. it is possibly shorted. but in your case it could have damaged already the amp that;s why it would not turn on. normally it will first trip, turn on then turns off. but to stay off and not to turn on again is major problem of the amp. or maybe it emanated from miscabling, probably the ceiling speakers got connected to a high output or main amp. but try removing all speakers first then turn the unit on. see if it does power up.
