Check and empty the drain pan, you should be able to gain access by removing the vent grill below the door if there is one. The pan is under the unit somewhere. There is also a drain tube, make sure its not blocked with ice.

SOURCE: water dripping under freezer.

Hi nrudiger,

The source of this water is the defrost system located in the freezer section. Every time a refrigerator enters a defrost cycle, the compressor and fans will turn off and a heater will turn on to melt the accumulated frost off the evaporator. This water should run down the drain tube into the condensate pan located behind the bottom access grill. When the drain becomes blocked, the water has no place to go and will freeze when the defrost cycle ends. After several cycles, the ice will be high enough to cause water to overflow into the refrigerator section (or out the freezer door in a side by side) and you will notice water leaking from the refrigerator top and start pooling under the bottom drawers. The solution to the problem is to clear the ice out, defrost the drain, and clear any debris from the drain tube. Defrost the unit and it will drain again then, no more leaking water.

Hope this helps.

Leeking water inside fridge from top

Defrost drain is clogged. This accessable thru the back wall of the freezer. Also depending on your model some also have removable Bottom floors of freezer that also get ice accumulation. When the defrost drain gets clogged water from the defrost cycle has no where to go so it stays and accumulates ice till eventually it leaks into the fresh food section. Clear the drain completly and you will have no more problems.

Kenmore chest freezer - why is there a 1/2 inch of ice in bottom

Hello. If your freezer is not a self defroster, you must have had a power failure for a few hours that caused a melt with water ending up on the floor of the freezer and then refreezing. IF you have a self-defrost model, your defrost cycle produces some water which should make it's way down to the evaporator tray just above the floor... in your case, the small hole in the floor is plugged and the water is accumulating on the floor rather than making it's way to the evaporator tray. The fix is to clean the evaporator tray, defrost the ice with a blow dryer, locate the hole and clean it out with a couple of pipe cleaners or cotton swabs. Regards, Joe

Water leaking onto the floor from freezer drain...

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. .

Is a Kenmore Elite Upright Frost-Free Freezer supposed to have water leaking from underneath it? Would this be the water accumulating from the "defrost cycle" on it?

Is the drain pan underneath overflowing? If so the water filter may be clogged and the water leaking past it to the pan. The normal amount of water from the defrost cycle shouldn't fill it up. The condenser fan usually evaporates the water by blowing the warm air on the pan.
There could be a leak because or the defrost drain being stopped up but this usually comes out the bottom of the freezer door.

I have a mr.freeze sa-12863 that is leaking water under the machine.help

If the water is actually coming from under the ice maker, I can't help you.
However, I just discovered water leaking from around the top of the lid on mine. I took the lid off [by first removing both side panels and then the screws for the top] and discovered that there is a metal plate under the water spout that causes water to splash up around the lid. In mine, this led to water running out aall the way around the lid, down the sides, and all over the counter. You can't remove the spout without messing up the water level sensor, but I bent the plate a bit flatter and no longer have splashing water everywhere.

Ice accumulation at bottom of freezer

Hi, Remove the rear inside panel of the freezer and locate the drain hole under the evaporator coils.
Use a hair dryer and melt the ice. Make sure and get the ice out of the drain hole as well.
After the ice is removed, be sure and flush the drain hole with hot water. A baisting surenge works great for the flush.
I hope this helps you. If I can assist you further, please let me know.

Freezer Defrosting

After a defrost cycle the ice around the evaporator melts, that water goes out and lands in a tray under the refrigerator. But sometimes the tube gets clogged and water spills inside the freezer and if enough water accumulates, it will make it to the floor. To fix this problem look for a small hole inside the refrigerator and open it up using a can of compressed air. Hope this helps

Kenmore freezer peeing on my floor

  • if the door was not closed correctly for a while then a lot of condensation will be accumulated on the freezer coils.
  • then when going into defrost it melts this ice/frost and overflows the pan or container under the machine which relies on evaporation to dispel  of the water.
  • empty the pan under the refrigerator if you can, then give it another day, it will get back to normal.
if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.
