If your media player is a PC always make sure the receiver is turned on before or at the same time as the media player.
Some windows based PC's have issues detecting speakers if they are turned on before. Unplugging the cable and plugging in again helps.

if your media player is not a PC, never mind. But you would not believe how many problems there are with HDMI cables, if you can borrow one to test, or use one from something else you own just to see if that's it.

have you tried your media player in a different port?

SOURCE: Denon AVR 2800 digital hookup to PS3

If your TV has an HDMI input, hook up the PS3 w/an HDMI cable to the TV. This will give you a high def picture (set up the PS3 to output the max resolution your TV displays). That will take care of the video side.

Next hook up an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver. In the PS3 menu, you have to change the audio settings to output the sound via the optical cable.

Finally to get sound out of the receiver to the speakers, you have to setup the receiver source input. For example if you setup the PS3 to play thru "VCR" input, then you have to make sure the VCR input is setup to use either optical 1 or optical 2 for sound (whichever one you have the optical cable plugged in from the PS3).

  • I found this solution on a different site... it worked for me. I needed to change the sound settings in my ps3 to optical... then i selected dolby 5.1.... that took care of my sound.

SOURCE: the HDMI "input" ports damage output ports of connecting devices

i know this sounds stupid, but have you "toggled" or "played" with the HDMI cables? are they the same manufacturer? HDMI channel connections are very fickle. If just one connection is not exactly correct, they go to a limp, no go status. Since they run at such a minimal voltage, i can't see them "blowing" the outputs on the devices.however....if your cable has a serial type output for video only, I would connect the hdmi convertor to it and see if it works.

SOURCE: How to connect BLU-RAY DVD player to Pioneer Plasma TV via HDMI

The best possible solution to your problem is :
Connect your blu ray player directly to the HDMI input of you Plasma and watch HD video....
and connect the 5.1/7.1 sound thru the optical or the coaxial link directly to your AVR 3805.
You will not loose anything on the Blu-Ray.
The sound is best processsed by the AVR3805, while the video, which is the real upgrade (BluRay) in terms of resolution of picture would be processed by your plasma.

Connect and Enjoy

SOURCE: connection problem with HDMI cables on Denon AVR-589

Hi dmsgolfer22,

If your Time Warner Cable box is old enough that it has a DVI output it may have HDCP (copy protection issues) with the receiver. If you are having to use a DVI to HDMI adapter to connect to your receiver (output from Cable Box to input on Receiver) then it's very likely your cable box may have may not output the signal because it detects the HDMI repeater in the receiver.

The two best options to correct this are:
1. Connect the DVI to HDMI cable directly to the input on the TV, you lose the convenience of the video switching in the TV, but it will solve the problem. Then connect the digital audio output from your cable box to the receiver, although you've probably already done this.

2. Contact your cable provider and check into the possibility of them swapping out your cable box for a newer model that would have an HDMI output. This would be the best option since the HDMI output on the cable box would give you both the Digital Audio and Video through a single HDMI cable.

Let me know how it works out for your, or if you have any questions.

I have a Denon AVR 3310CI everything appears to work HDMI inputs recognizes speakers but zero sound ???

If you have verified that the Denon AVR 3310CI is properly configured and connected to the speakers but are still unable to hear anything, you can try the following troubleshooting procedures:
Examine the HDMI cables: Check to see that the HDMI cables are securely connected to the HDMI output port on your source device and the HDMI input ports on the receiver's back. To see if that resolves the issue, try substituting new HDMI cables.
The microprocessor must be reset: The functions of the Denon AVR 3310CI are controlled by a microprocessor. Try powering the receiver back on while simultaneously holding down the "Power" and "Speaker A" buttons to reset the microprocessor.
Check the settings for the sound: Check that the sound settings on the receiver are set up correctly. To ensure that the settings are optimized for your particular setup, check the model's manual.
Aktualize the firmware: Check to see if the Denon AVR 3310CI's firmware can be updated. For additional information on how to update the firmware, you can visit the Denon website or get in touch with their customer support.
Use a different source to test: To determine whether the issue is with the receiver or the original source device, test it with a different source device.

My denon avr 3805 has no hdmi ports. how do i connect my comcast cable box to it.

The only way would be component cables, and digital or analog audio cables. I believe there are HDMI to Component convertors as well.

I have a denon avr-x2000 all hdmi ports except the cab/sat are fuzzy. it started with the PS3 on the game port

Plug your ps3 and/or blu-ray directly into the TV and see what it looks like. use different HDMI cables to test them. Once you know that all works then setup your avr-x2000. Does the Denon menus look fuzzy?

Just bought a 46" Samsung

This is a site where you can download a manual. I'm not familiar with Denen however, you should be able to go out of satellite receiver(HDMI) to your receiver input(tv/sat) then to your HDMI input on tv. Your receiver might show video and sound through another port of receivers options, ie; video 1, video 2, etc. Check all putput options for your picture and sound. Hope this helps.

I have my PS3 and TV hooked up to the HDMI ports. I have programmed the unit to show them under TV and DVD respectivly. When I change the source to TV or DVD, nothing shows up on my TV as expected

Sounds like you hooked them both up to HDMI input ports. Make sure that the PS3 is connected to an HDMI input port on the AVR-1508, and that the TV is connected to an HDMI output port (not an input).
