This set is known for convergence problems where picture looks 3 d etc and this is caused by bad connections under and around the high voltage transformer in many cases.

First thing to do is look in menu to see if "Convergence" option is still there or missing----three small parts available as a kit exist to correct that if the option is missing (all are at same place around the high voltage transformer).

Set would have to be taken apart if you are able to check things there---if not most techs familiar with this set can deal with this in the home.


the connections and parts are all right where the high voltage transformer (called a flyback) is located.

I get that there is no Chroma on something but not sure in what mode or source you are speaking about. Sometimes people have trouble due to a setting being wrong or they use a really cheap video cable which can strip the higher frequency Chroma signal off of the Baseband or Composite video signal. Try a higher grade of video cable- video signals at 10MHz bandwidth do not like to go through cheap audio cables. maybe you could clarify the problem more?

I might need a little more detail to solve this problem - I suspect the problem is an incorrect setting on your cable/satellite receiver (assuming you are using one), but let's start with the TV.

Firstly, switch the TV on and select a channel where you can see the ticker. Then press the "FORMAT" button (above the red REC/CONNECT button) on your Mitsubishi remote control. This will change the screen aspect ratio and the current setting will be displayed on screen. Each time you press the FORMAT button the screen size should change.

The screen aspect ratio settings for your TV are STANDARD, EXPAND, ZOOM, STRETCHED and NARROW. Press the FORMAT button repeatedly until "STANDARD" is displayed on the screen. If the ticker is still cut off, you need to change the aspect ratio setting on your cable/satellite receiver.

Please note: If the TV will only allow you to select STANDARD, this is not a fault. It simply means that the aspect ratio cannot be changed on the TV because it's displaying a picture from an external source, i.e. a cable/satellite receiver.

You should then look for a button on the front of your cable/satellite receiver or the cable/satellite remote control marked "FORMAT" or "ZOOM". When you have located this button, try pressing it repeatedly until the ticker is both fully on the TV screen and the picture covers the entire screen.

If you don't have a FORMAT or ZOOM button for your cable/satellite receiver or you are unable to set the picture size correctly, leave the TV set to STANDARD and then reply to me with the brand and model number of your cable/satellite receiver. I will then be able to assist you with finding the correct picture settings and give instructions on how to set these correctly.

Press Menu then setup Look for Convergence,If you do Not See It listed then you have a Blowed Fuse FL231 on the Deflection Board.
It will be Located on the bottom left hand side Board with FBT flyback Transfomer on the right side of the FBT Look for 3 in a roll small brown looking caps ,These are Fuses, It will be the one in the Middle 0.06amps Partstore.com has them 1-866-925-7278

On the RCA - Color Wheel Encompass Parts Distr look up online or call them 1-800-638-3328 Other TV could have Bad capacitors pull back off if any of the caps are puffed up on top then they are Bad 1000uf 16v , usally find 2 or 3 bad

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence


These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

My RCA 52 rear projection TV has the letters getting blurry on top and bottom, Picture is OK but visually losing my eyesight staring at blurry numbers and letters.

Is this a bulb or simple fix ??

First check capacitors cp150 2200uf 16v and cp114,cp120 220uf 35v If cp150 is puffed up on top it is bad , then there is a fuse FL231 on right side of flyback transfomer it will be the middle fuse if open you will lose convergence on picture .

On the remote, if you use the right and left keys on the pad with the OK sign in the middle, it will adjust the screen to several sizes including Cinema, 16:9, 4:3, Zoom, etc. I, personally, use 16:9 because I, like you, need to see the ticker symbols at the bottom. I hope this helps.

I read that these sets have a problem with the yokes on tubes sliding down some- there for causing this problem make sure yokes are all the way up on neck of picture tubes,this may fix your problem!
