Why won't my Frigidaire FDF50S1 dehumidifier maintain its settings?

Until about a month ago the dehumidifier worked perfectly, then I noticed it was not running though the humidity was high. I found that wherever I set the humidity level it would start moving up every few seconds until it reached the maximum of 85% where it would stay. It will still work above 85%, but if I set it any lower it just climbs back to 85% and stays there. Nothing seems to help and there are no error codes and it still works otherwise. Is it toast? Or can it be fixed?

SOURCE: Relative humidity setting changes

My guess is the unit knows it can't reach 35% humidity, bacause it's measuring the ambient humidity. Dehumidifiers usually can't drop the RH more than around 10%.

My guess is the RH in the room is around 75% when this happens.

SOURCE: Dehumidifier doesn't draw in water (humidity).

It may be too cool in the basement for it to work. Mine doesn't work if its 67 or below. Take it upstairs and see if it works there, where it is warmer.

Why won't my Frigidaire FDF50S1 humidifier maintain its settings?

Hey Art Miner, thank you for your post!

I understand that your dehumidifier is not operating properly. You should put it on a continuous drain mode to see if it will continue to pull moisture. Could you please provide feedback to what your appliance is doing once set to a continuous drain? -Matt

Frigidaire dehumidifier

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that there is no water coming out of your Frigidaire dehumidifier, model# FDF50S1. I also see that the filter is fine and the fan is running. If you have your dehumidifier set up to continuously drain through a garden hose, make sure there are no kinks or clogs in the garden hose. If that does not work, I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Turn the power back on and try any cycle. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully.

-Best Regards-

I have a 50 series w/ digital humidity level readout. Recently unit reads the room at 30% humidity so it shuts off unless preferred setting is set to continuous. Can the sensors go bad that measure the...

If the humidity level is at or lower than 30%, the unit won't turn ON, until the reaches 35 - 40%. It's rare for the sensors to go bad. Just keep in mind, the dehumidifier is reading the humidity near the floor, not up at say, chest level. Humidity levels change every season, so this really would not be that unusual. Make sure that your clean the air intake filter regularly. Cleaning and wiping down the coolant coils would be a good idea, too..

Hope this helped you. Please let me know.
