SOURCE: Generator doesn't excite with small power tools.
Somewhere on the Generator is an Idle Control switch, turning this to the off position will stop the generator idling down in the first place. You'll need to do this to use tools that don't draw enough current to trip the idle control system into revving the engine.
It may say just how much current you have to draw in the manual (hint, hint).

SOURCE: can not excite generator
most generators you can polarize the brushs this is done by using a 12v. battery and a set of jumper cables hook to the battery and touch the brushs with the other ends it doesn't matter whicht side, but before you do all that check the connections at the brushs and see if they are loose or not making a good contact, i do hope that i was able to help you, thank you.

SOURCE: briggs and stratton 11hp generator giving spark
how long has it been since it last ran? I had a similar problem with mine so I put clean fuel in it with a mixture of sea foam gas treatment. Used a shot of starting fluid to get started and let it run for an hour or so. Just started it again yesterday with no problems. The fuel in carburetor is most likely old and needs to be gotten out of. If you try this and get it started let it run in half choke position for a few minutes so old fuel will get out of caburetor. Good Luck
