Compaq Evo doesnt turn on.

When I turn on the power button, the lights blink and make a wierd clicking sound, but then it goes dead. It was working fine. It down start up at all, not even the screen will turn on.

I encountered a similar issue with my n610c a while back. It turned out I had no ram (it had all been removed). This may not be exactly what you are looking for, but it happened to me.

When you plug the laptop to the power adapter, you should see the indicator led lit up telling that it has good connection to the ac adaptor. It wont turn on because either there is a loose connection to the power adaptor and hasn't been charging the battery, or the power adaptor itself is bad. Check the power plug with a miltimeter, it should be around 19 Volts.

When the power button blinks do you hear the laptop fans run on full speed? If that happens its because your laptop is overheating and is trying to cool down. It will not turn on until it cools down to protect from damage due to heat.

Use your laptop on a hard surface and dont block its vents with anything. If you want to use it on bed keep it on a laptop cooler or a thick book to allow ventilation.

If laptop doesnt turn on at all, the motherboard might be damaged. Take it to repair shop and check whats wrong.

If you battery is totally dead you need a replacement unit - remove the battery power the unit up using external power pack then refitt the battery - if it won't charge the battery is dead. get a new battery

Yeah it could be. Always use the correct adapter mentioned for your laptop. Otherwise it could harm the inner wirings and the motherboard. Always go for the right adapter. If it was any motherboard problem, atleast it would've blinked. So this might be the problem of your adapter or may be of the power button.

I have a compaq presario V5204NR
Try starting it with just the adaptor or just the battery.
If the adaptor is broken it might not properly power-up, same goes for the battery. You'll need to exclude these two first.

If it starts with just the adaptor: dead battery.
If it starts with just the battery: defective adaptor (broken connections, insufficient power etc.)

In both cases you should probably call upon your warranty. That is, it that is still applicable.

If both situations don't work, let me know and we'll think further.

Keyboard not working on evo n1000c
hi, first check the keyboard is on (there is power on for the keyboard and mouse device in the newer type of laptops) and while the windows start before boot see the num light is blink and the power on will blink. if it will not blink. Goto the bios setup and here while you switch on the system press the DEL or F2 key. it will goes to the bios setup and see the keyboard is enable. if it will not work then you have check with the other usb or ps/2 keyboard connect it and try it . if prob comes again inform to fixya.com
