Question about Philips 51PW9363 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Red convergerce not working

When I turn the set on and there is a red double vision effect. It is more distorted in the upper corners then in the middle of the picture. I removed the back and covered the red flood light and the distortion goes away (but so does the red color). When I bring up the convergence cross hairs they will not vertically but they will move horizontally. Ive tried to fiddle with it but I am no expert. Any ideas?

Thank you

I have the same issue with the red arch accross the screen. When it first happened i could turn the tv on and off and the red would sink up with the blue and green and it would be fine till it was turned off.Now it will not sink up anymore.Red bulb stays out of convergance.I have tried manual adjustment inside but it will not adjust so i turned the red drive almost all the way down,Has a blue tint to picture but it is watchable if needed.

There is an auto restore option on the onscreen menu its sort of hidden you need to scroll down all the way to the bottom past the multipoint options give that a try

Red color outline and double vision

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

TV turns on and then, after a few seconds, picture changes to "double vision".

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.

Picture distortion in samsung LCD SB42W5

This can be a failure in the panel itself, or the driver circuits to the panel. It is serviced by factory level diagnostics and board replacements. This take specialized training, tools, and setups to perform.

Considering the set is 5+ years old, it most likely will not be cost effective to service. There is also the possiblilty that the circuit boards may no longer be available. I would suggest to replace the set rather than service it.

When servicing a set with a number of years of use, there are many other components and circuit boards that can potentialy fail. As electronic components age and have use, the posibility of failure increases.

Philips 51pw9363

jessecool,
The convergence amps need to be replaced.. Your set uses two STK392-120 Sanyo original Ics.. Also all the low ohm resistors in that circuit should be measured for change in value and replaced if not within tolerance..
