SOURCE: MP390 paper jam at feeder
First thing that comes to mind is that SOMETHING you (or someone) fed in, had a paper clip, staple, crinkle or some other unnatural thickness on one side of the paper - and it's stuck inside the feed mechanism.
I had the same exact thing with the feeder on my shredder. You have to get right inside you printer to find the problem.
Watever it may have been probably got stuck in the paper path so EVERYTHING from that point on gets skewed as it gets sucked into the printer and jams.
Can you get "IN" to clear the path?

You need to replace the document feeder motor the gears on the motor shaft are split and slipping. New motor is 12.72 at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts2.cfm

Welcome to FixYa.
Open the Automatic Document feeder and look for any paper left inside. If you forcefully removed the paper without opening the feeder, a mechanism could possibly occur in which case, servicing the printer is the best option.
Press OK, YES then OK to clear the jam message.
Note: For Legal Size paper, load up to 10 sheets only. For Letter Size paper, you can load up to 30 sheets. This is to prevent paper jams.
Thank you for using Fixya.
