Check and see if it gas a kill switch some were on it follw a black wire out of coil see were it goes maybe to a kill switch look for it

My onan 4.0 grenerator motor will not idle and it is back fireing while trying to run is in the valves

If it is backfiring even during idle, there are a couple of possible issues. Check the obvious and least expensive first. Make sure you have correct OEM spark plugs, check ignition wires. Then check the ignition coil and trigger module, there is a procedure for doing that in the Cummins Onan manual. A manual can be obtained from http://www.advanced-power-technologies.com/ or local Onan RV dealer. This will give you the ignition coil resistance and the ignition module resistance. Also has anyone messed around with the carb, or has it sat for long periods, too lean a fuel mixture can cause backfiring. Good Luck ;)

It could not be starting for any number of reasons. Old stale fuel, carbeurator out of adjustment, bad spark plug, dirty air cleaner.

If you are sure all the correct switches are thrown to start this unit, than you need to turn your attention towards the coil. It might be toasted and need to be replaced. Make sure all connections are good before replacing. Good Luck...

Onan 4000 will not start. Removed spark plug, it is oily and smells old.

If this is a two cycle rebuild and clean carb. If this is a four cycle your rings are going bad, the smell would mean trouble.

I have a micro quiet 4000 starts up but surges up and down , could it be just old gas making it run so bad

The reason can be:

Bad or loose ignition (spark plug, magneto, coil cable etc);
Water in the gas;
Dirty fuel strainer;
Not set on level surface;

Check the spark plug and the ignition coil for good sparking.

Get the spark plug out, or with another spark plug connected to high voltage cable, outside the motor, the outer part of the plug connected to motor ground and see if spark is present at cranking.

my moen garbage disposal is leaking out the bottom where there is 4 screws coming out the bottom, the threads are exposed out the bottom, one screw is leaking only when the disposl is on.
