What is wrong with my camera?

The camera will turn on and take a picture or two however after that it refuses to allow you to do anything, and that does include shutting it off, zoom in and out, and take additional pictures or video. I need to know how to fix this problem. We have only had said camera for two years max.

SOURCE: P850 shuts itself off for no reason

Try using a liquid contact cleaner. I read about this fix on another site, worked great for me.
A product called DeoxIT in the U.S. is what was suggested, I am in Canada and can't get that here so I picked up a product from a company called NexxTech. Just a liquid contact cleaner.
Take out the battery of the camera. Put a few small drops of the contact cleaner on the power button and let it drip down into the switch. Rotate the on/off switch back and forth 5-10 times, put the battery back in and Voila! Fixed!
No more random on/off irritations, camera works just like it did before the problem arose a few weeks ago.
It worked great for me.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: Zoom out and it shuts down

Don't think you'll have to send it in for repair. How old is your battery? Keep in mind that it isn't meant to last for more than a year or two, regardless of how often it is used. A camera will automatically shut down if its battery power is getting low. This usually occurs when the camera is doing power intensive actions, such as zooming (it uses a motor). Anyways, Amazon has some generic options for you if your battery may be over-the-hill:

SOURCE: Lens only goes thru zoom cycle then shuts off

Your fix could be as simple as cleaning the camera's battery contacts, or it could be something more serious and expensive. Before you pay for expensive repairs that you may or may not need, check the Kodak Help Center by clicking on the link below. It uses a simple Q&A format to diagnose problems and propose solutions.

SOURCE: My camera shuts off when I my zoom is nearly halfway through

Make sure your batter is fully charged, and is not bad. This kind of reaction can happen with a weak battery or partly charged.
If that is not it, then the camera needs repair.

The camera has a message that the Media Dial is in the wrong position and it will not do anything.

Read the manual, locate the media dial and set it to the correct default position.

If camera refuses to operate, then there is something wrong with unit.

I have a Panasonic DMC-FX12 digital camera. Before I left on vacation, I took all the pictures OFF of the camera and recharged the battery. I took only 4 pictures before the error message "Built in...

You copied all your pictures, but they still exist on the memory card. You need to go into the menu and erase the pictures. As far as the lens not coming out, there may be some dirt in the mechanism.

Camera refuses to zoom out

I had a similar problem. The lense extended when I turned the camera on and immediately retracted and turned off by itself. I pulled the memory card and then reinserted/reseated it. It appears to have fixed my problem.

Problem with lens

It is possible you have the display turned off... Some cameras allow you to do this to save battery.

Help

Here's the fix (condensed from another post):

Turn the camera off. Then, put the camera in manual mode (turn the dial to A S M) and then take a picture. Card formats and all is fine.

This works for some reason. Thanks to original poster out there somewhere.
