If your sound system has an optical input, then use the TVs optical out socket and connect the two.

If the sound system just red & white phono/RCA sockets, or a 3.5mm jack then you need an optical to RCA convertor box. This will change digital into something that a conventional sound system can understand.

Here's the right type of box from Amazon

The Way Im understanding your problem is,
it seems like you need to hook your rcas directly to the tv and switch the surround to aux or something similar to that.

SOURCE: I have a philips tv

Most commonly people would use a splitter cable with one male prong and two female prongs at the other end. These are "phono" or "rca" type plugs and the cheapest place to get them is a hardware store. Hope you understand my explanation. Good luck, Russmann.

Samsung smart tv speakers sound horrible; this has just developed. The speakers sound "blown out" but we have never played the volume loud.

So then the amps have gone south and are in need of repair.

Or you can hook up your audio outputs to your external audio system - that should work. Did for me!

My philips amplifier theater system comes on and powers on when i select tv audio or aux the sound dont come through it

You have to go into the audio setup screen of the TV and select external audio so the audio will be routed to the output jacks instead of the speakers in the TV

How do i get the external audio output to work?

First make sure that your TV has an audio OUT. Most do not. If you do then you can plug into that but you will have to go into the menu on the TV under audio and turn on the external speaker feature. If you do not have an audio OUT then you will have to hook you speaker to the audio OUT of your home stereo system and hook the source output to the input of your stereo. Source being (dvd, cable box). In that case you need to turn off the internal speakers on the TV and just run it through your home stereo system.

IM tryin to hook up my samsung home theater system to my philips tv. It works when watching dvd, but when i switch to my basic tv cable it doesnt play sound out of my surround sound speakers. How can i...

Check what type of Audio input it has on it. It should either have an Optical Audio input(glowing red while unit is turned on) or an Audio input(red and white jacks) You would run the correct cable from the Audio Output on your tv, To the Audio Input on your surround sound reciever. Let me know if this helps solve your problem.

LG tv sound quit - will it work if I add external speaker system

Maybe!! It depends on where the audio sys failed. If it failed at the output drive, then you can take the audio off at the audio output jack and input it to your stereo system where there is an audio input. You'll need a cable with RCA jacks on it for this.
If your system is muted for some reason, this may not work.

How do i hook external speakers to sony bravia television

The proper way to do this would be to use the audio output from the TV, either analogue left and right or the optical port, and send it into an dedicated amplifier or AV receiver. You can then use the amplifier or receiver to power the external speakers. If you are using a dedicated amplifier with no volume control you will want to change the audio output setting on the TV to "variable out" as oppose to its current "fixed out"settings. You can find this in the TV menu, usually under the audio settings. This will allow you to use the current TV remote to adjust the audio volume coming out of the external speakers.

No sound from external speakers system

Look into your monitor settings and computer settings and see if you can reverse the "input" and "output". If both are set to line in or line out then they pretty much cancell themselves out.

Want to add an external speaker to TV

If you have audio out RCA jacks then you can hook up some computer speakers that have RCA jack inputs. If you don't have audio outputs and your TV has a HOT chassis then you won't be able to do it. If your tv has a switching power supply then you can install a jack to TV speakers, so they disconect when you hook up your other speakers, if you try and hook up speaker to the TV speakers then the impedence will change, and your audio output IC will get hot and short out.
