My maytag washer gives off a horrible order. It permeates the whole house. It has been going on for quite some time. I e-mailed the company about 2 years ago. I followed the instructions given to fill the tub and put chlorine bleach into the tub and let it go through the normal cycle to no avail. My husband is very upset, as we cannot do any laundry when we are having anyone over as the odor is so offensive. It is a very putrid smell. Right now I put in a load of towels, and am at my computer in the kitchen and the odor is reeking. You may think that I have a small house, and hence the odor permeating through small quarters, but our house if 2700sq.ft. I am 70 years old, so it is not that It am an amateur. I am also college educated and have raised ten children, so I know my way around the laundry room. Please help me! I have had GE washers all my life and have never had this problem. When I moved into a newly built house after raising all my children, I thought I would treat myself and get a Maytag. The clothes come out clean. I have also taken the top of the agitator off, where the softner is placed and have cleaned the tub numerous times. I would appreciate any help I can get, as I am ready to toss the washer out, but being on a fixed income, this is not an option. Thank you for any help you can give me. Ellen Francis
Hi, The problem you are having is from mold and mildew. This is caused due to it being an HE washer (high efficiency). They use very little water and have a super tight sealing system. Maytag came up with a solution for it. Its called Affresh. It is an oxygenating tablet that literally eats the mold and mildrew. Its a good product. You have to use it on a regular basis to keep the stink and mildew away. You can get it on line at www.affresh.com.

The bacteria in the washer part are causing the smell.
Give the inside a good wipe round with a damp cloth to remove any visible residue.
Leave the door and soap drawer fully open so that the inside dries out after a couple of days; that should fix it.
They have a mind of their Own, don't they? Solution:
You need to order a New Drain Pump (Yes Amazon has them cheap!) have it replaced-installed. If you want to do it. Go to YouTube enter your machine# and see if some dope, I mean person installed one!
I have the same problem. I bought it new in the fall of 2007. They replaced the control panel but that didn't help. Next they replaced the whole range with a new one, same model, still the same problem. They told me it was a problem with my electric in my house. Then they said it was a strange electro-magnetic field in my neighborhood and I would have to buy a different brand? One time with the original stove the oven quit working and I had to re-set the breaker. Everything still works but the clock is always wrong. We bought all Maytag stuff, including fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer. The kitchen stuff is 4 years old. The washer and dryer are 3 years old. We have had this issue with the stove, the washing machine broke and they had to replace the whole drum assembly, and last week my refrigerator broke. Very disappointed with Maytag stuff. So has anyone found a solution?
the pumps and motor pullys go bad on those.tip washer back against wall and inspect there.motor pulley melts ,the pump pulley breaks loose from its spot welds and then will rub metal to metal.when ordering parts replace belt too if damaged.if worn wont get a good spin and then dryer has to work over time.[power bill up.up,up.thanks for using fixya.God bless, tom
You have a bad motor. ( very common) If you take your model number to a local used parts store you may be able to find a good used motor for cheap. If no luck finding a used one, Order it from sears. (the motor is deffinately your problem, I replace them all the time.)
if you use liquid detergent for a long period this will cause a nasty smell and it leaves a horrid slime in pipework etc. if so, put on a boil wash and change to powder. also, make sure there is a water barrier between the washer drain pipe and your house drains
I purchased a Maytag Performa washer in 2003 and experienced the same thing. A service call found a loose electrical connection behind the switch panel. The washer has worked fine since.
Hope this helps.
sounds like you have a short in control board on washer buy service smart agreement from sears it will cost a little and cover up to 500.00 or give you 500.00 towards replacement value, dryer if you have heat its your vent in wall not breathing well , it will cause long dry times
