Then you have to open a paint or Word document. Now you can paste the screenshot.

Depending on your hardware, you may use the Windows Logo Key + PrtScn button as a shortcut for print screen. If your device does not have the PrtScn button, you may use Fn + Windows logo key + Space Bar to take a screenshot, which can then be printed.
Check if you have to press the fn (function) key on your laptop before pressing Print Screen, you can tell if they are both the same blue color.
When you press ALT+Print Screen, you only capture the active window, when you
click print screen you capture the entire screen. Then you will have to
press CTRL+V on your keyboard to paste into paint. If you have windows Vista, you can capture screen shots much more easily using the Snipping Tool included with Vista.
Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard. It may be labeled [PrtScn].

The Windows "clipboard" is a term used to
describe the temporary storage space in memory where an item is placed
when you copy or cut. When you paste, the item is transferred to the
program you're working in. If you copy something else, the old item is
replaced with the new. You can't manipulate the clipboard directly; it's
only used for copy and paste operations.
Your laptop keyboard should have a print screen key (look for PRTSCN). If you still can't find it, you may use a screen capture app such as this one: http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html

You can find programs that do a far better job of capture screen images. Like this one.. http://www.etrusoft.com/
pressing the print screen copies the screen to the windows clipboard. You then need to paste the clipboard's contents into a drawing program like microsoft paint
Download this utility that will make PrtScr easier to do:
Once installed, Purrint places an icon on the system tray, though I'd say it's more comfortable to use with the keyboard itself. Now, every time you press the PrtScr key (or the Alt+PrtScr shortcut to capture the active window) a window will open and offer you the possibility to copy the image to the clipboard (as the standard key would do), save it as an image file or send it to your printer right away. http://purrint.en.softonic.com/
