If the printer is showing that the cartridges are empty when you have sent a document to the printer, hold down the stop/reset button for around 6 seconds. This should bypass the empty ink message.

Hello,
Yes, the cartridges can be refilled. For refill instruction search on the internet for tutorials. After refill, the printer say "low ink", don't worry, press and hold resume button for about 5 seconds and the printer will start to printing again.

I just bought a Canon Pixma MG2920 but I cant find any compatable edible ink cartridges
I don't know about edible ink, but I have bought refillable carts from this company for well over a year, and have been happy with the results. Yes, they do offer carts for your printer:

Maybe you should read the user's manual? I've reas cutomer's review at Amazon and looks users have no problem with the scanning feature of this printer. If you don't have the manual, get it from here:

Conon won't recongnise the cartridge when i just refill it manually?
The cartridges for the IP3600 printer have a chip on them that needs to be reset before the printer will accept the newly refilled cartridge. if you don't have the resetting device then unfortunately refilling these cartridges won't help you at all.

Hi. Try to reset the printer using the procedure below.

Manual Reset for Canon Pixma MPC190 Printers
  1. Enter the service mode SERVICE MODE – pressing buttons Menu, Copy, Scan, Copy, Copy
  2. Choose TEST MODE.
  3. Select 8 PRINTER TEST TEST MODE.
  4. Choose 3, EEPROM CLEAR
  5. Select 0, INK COUNT
  6. Press the Set button.
  7. Click Stop / Reset button (return to item 3), and again press the ON / OFF

How to reset printer to recognize refilled cartridges
Reset is not needed. Just turn off your printer power supply and turn it on. It will automatically detect the newly installed cartridge, provided the original compactible cartridge is installed.

Canon MX310 - refilling cartridge
Most canons have a chip on the ink cartridge that tells the printer the ink is empty so unless you reset that chip (which you cannont do), that newly filled cartridge will always read empty. This is how some printer manufacturer's thwart people saving money by refilling their cartridges.
