You should check the filter and change it if needed as well as flush the water line where fresh water allege can build up. There is also a small grommet that can where out. Just get the make and model of your unit take it to a maintenance shop and tell them what's happening and they will sell you the appropriate part and it's pretty cheap, couple bucks.

I had similar problem. While it was still on I pressed the recessed "reset" button and it magically fixed the problem. It retained all my prior settings and locations. Note: must press reset before unit powers off.

Lately their has been a lot of complaints with Garmin. I have a Tom Tom and really love mine. Still learning on it. My suggestion even though it may hurt some is, put your on Ebay, describe the truth, sell it, it will sell fast to recondition/reburbish folks. Get you a Tom Tom of your choice their also. I got mine at Wall Mart. But have noticed on Ebay they are so much cheaper. Pluss all the accessories are cheap. Garmin telling you there are no detailed maps is baloney. Sorry and don't mean this bad at all. Man we all pay big bucks for these GPS units only to find problems that in some cases can not be repaired or fixed. But bottom line, they do get repaired.
