Philips slc4 Connected a DVD player but can not get a picture, only sound and a hum.

Scroll through the video settings on the tv. If the video cable is connected, you should find it.

Make sure the yellow RCA cable is connected in both the DVD player and TV. Make sure the TV is on the proper input that you see the DVD player connected to. If you're getting sound and no picture, try using new/different RCA cables.

that is a problem with the amp.
does this player have a dvd player built in or not

on the side of the tv mostly there is a button for dvd mode you will have to press that button to reach in dvd mode.if no such button then its the cables fault or the wires are not connected properly just check out this link for connections

how do you have the audio hooked up for it if you are using componet cable (red,white) for sound they could be causing the humming you can either switch audio cables or use some other form of cable for sound

If the player is doing that for all DVDs but playing CDs properly, the player has gone bad due to either the laser and lens being out of whack or the DVD drive just doesn't recognise DVDs anymore and needs repaired or replaced.

Does the DVD player still work, even though it's making the humming noise?
The humming noise may just be normal for that machine. Turn your TV up louder .
If the player doesn't work, the drive is broken, and you would have to send it to Phillips if your warranty is still working. If the Player still works, check to see if the disc is warped or cracked, this'll make the drive unstable, and make the noise.

if you have connected it to tv via a scart lead, make sure it is fully in on both ends, if it is not fully in, you will get sound but no picture, failing that, try a different scart lead

Check if you have not accidentlychanged to progressive mode which can cause this proble.
Are you connected to TV using Composite video out?Try connecting using S-Video or DVd (component inputs).
