Hi katie44l:
Depending on the eviroment the printer is in depends on weather you have dust on the laser lenses. If you are in a dusty eviroment then the laser mirrors may have excessive dust on them preventing the laser beam from giving you the print quality that you need. The only way to fix this problem is to open the laser scanner motor assembly and clean the mirrors. That will require an HP certified technician to service the printer.

Image formation system
Laser printing requires the interaction of several different
technologies including electronics, optics, and electrophotographics
to provide a printed page. Each process functions independently and
must be coordinated with the other printer processes. Image
formation consists of seven processes:
Print cartridge
As the focal point of the image formation system, the print cartridge
contains toner and houses the cleaning, conditioning, and developing
stages of the process. The print cartridge contains the photosensitive
drum, primary charging roller, developing station, toner cavity, and
cleaning station. By including these components (which wear,
degrade, or are consumed) in the replaceable print cartridge, the
need for many service calls is eliminated. The special photosensitive
properties of the drum form an image on the drum surface and then
transfer the image to media.
CAUTION The print cartridge does not include a light-blocking shutter. Do not
expose the drum to light, which can permanently damage the drum.
Protect the print cartridge whenever you remove it.

Hope this helps.

Epson printer will not print any copies. I get the message "change cartridges 98/99." I did change both cartidges and can't clear the message and print copies.

i assume that everytime you try to print you get the same message. i sometimes get cartridge unrecognised on my epsom. I have to remove the cartridge, wipe the chip on the cartridge and reinsert.

If this doesnt work please specify printer model and if using original epsom cartridges.

Canon Pixma ix4000. I have a big problem.

Make sure that the cartidge is properly seated.
Then alighn the cartidge with the software that came with the printer and do a test page.
The light blinking means either the wrong cartridge or that it's not seated properly.

Light and streaky copies, and a powder residue.

make sure that the machine is level first. then you will have to change both the drum unit and toner cart with new units not just change the drum in the drum unit.

Drum has 13% life left; white paper w streak in middle when you copy

Try taking out the cartidge and given it a light shake. If the white streak moves or changes then you are out of toner.

As for sending faxes, do you get an error message an any kind? Does it try to dial?

All lights on

Fatal error, I think it has gotten rid of itself, probally fuser at cheapest would be the fix and even that would be more than it is worth to fix. Fatal error will be fuser/laser/board all cost in parts min $100 to 350.

that great but now how do i get rid of it? Place in bin after releasing frustration apon it, if not under warranty
