I have an Onkyo TX-SR313 Home Theater Receiver and while watching TV the receiver just completely lost power and will not come back on. What would cause this and how do I fix it?

Hello, It seems like the receiver is going into protection mode. A unit will only go into protection mode for two reasons mainly. The first reason is if there is an internal short. The second is if there is an external short which is typically only caused by one or more of the speaker connections. To isolate whether the short is internal or external, you would first need to unplug the receiver and disconnect all of the speakers. At this point you will plug the receiver back in with no speakers connected and turn the unit back on. Also turn the volume up to about 70 (even with no speakers connected). If the unit stays on that means that one or more of the speaker connections was causing the receiver to go into protection mode. If the receiver shuts off again with no speakers connected, then that means the unit would have an internal short and would have to go in for service. Thanks, FJD

If the relay clicks on and then off straight away then it might have detected an overload condition and so shuts down. Overloads can be caused by faulty speakers or wiring. But if the damage is done already then one of the main power amp transistors or other devices could be short circuited.

You will most likely need a RCA cable with single ends (both being male ends) One end plugs into your subwoofer input....marked subwoofer input on the subwoofer..........The other end will plug into your receiver that is marked subwoofer . When low frequencys from your media.....whether dvd,s /cable or audio cd,s is present the sub woofer will kick in , Make shure to adjust your setting on the rear of the sub if it has any like volume or frequency , most better subs have them as where the home theater in a box combo usually does not!

I just fixed mine with the same problem. Apparently, the HT-R667 and 606 receiver that comes with 6100 has a problem with the HDMI board. Onkyo wanted $500 dollars to fix it, costed me $16.
