Why does the fuse blow?

I recently got this VSX-305 receiver from a friend we tested it at his house and it worked fine. I brought it home hooked it up to a sub and my pc. While using the 8 ohm sub the 6.3 watt fuse blew and the receiver wouldn't power on. I replaced the fuse with a 6 watt one and as soon as I turned the power on It blew Instantly not even a second between me plugging it in and the replacement fuse blowing. I again replaced the fuse and tried to do the same on a different outlet but it blew again. Is the .3 watt that much of a difference or is something Internally damaged. If so what could It be and how can I fix it

Try a different sub first, the fuse difference is not crucial but should try to use the one recomended by manufaturer

The sub was not hooked up when the second and third fuses blew.

The little standby light works still even though the fuse is blown.

The receiver slipped my grip and fell about an Inch before the fuse blew but I doubt shock could cause the issue.

it could have caused the issue, who knows. most of the time these things come unsoldered at critical points with age, anyone with good eyesight soldering experience can re solder a board and it's components. If you take the cover off and look inside (with the unit unplugged) you can usually see burnt spot or cracks around the feet of big heat producers like transistors or ceramic resistors, (usually big white ceramic brick like things). This is the only cost effective move that may fix it, if you see a diode or something that is burnt replacing it may work if something didn't fail in the circuit to burn it and it only failed itself. Putting it in a shop would cost more than it is worth. If you have a trade school or community college that has an electronics class sometimes they will work on it for a minimal fee however they take forever to get it back to you.

You need the remote...or a universal remote you can program to the VSX-305 to un-mute it.

If it's under warranty..get a new one.
It's an internal breakdown ...tech service only.

SOURCE: Pioneer VSX-D412 AMP-ERR message.

Hello,
The AMP-ERR message in many Pioneer Receivers is caused by some DC in the output. The microprocessor then issues the warning and shuts the unit off. It is definitely not a relay switch. It could be the amplifier power pack, i.e. PAC011A or similar that is faulty or something else. Not easy to repair for the non- experienced DIY.

Good luck

SOURCE: no power

Press TUNE+ & AUTO SURR/DIRECT keys continuously for 2 sec. and it will tell you the fault it encountered if the receiver is in otherwise working condition.

SOURCE: pioneer receiver vsx-d510 sub not working

Rear Surrounds are not supported on this unit, they would be the 6th and 7th channels in a 7.1 rig. I think you mean Surrounds (channels 4 and 5 in a 5.1 rig).

Lets ponder: How is there any relationship between Surrounds and your separately-amplified Subwoofer? I don't see it, unless you inadvertently chose OFF for the Sub definition when you were in the Speaker selection menus adding the Surrounds. Look again.

Why does the fuse blow Instantly?

Link for the service manual: http://elektrotanya.com/pioneer_vsx-305_405.pdf/download.html On page 50 of the manual (36 of the pdf) it says for the "Sub woofer pre-out jack (Not available on the VSX-305 model) If you want to boost the low frequencies, connect to a subwoofer power amplifier" Your model will not drive a sub-woofer with out another amp. His sub may be a powered sub?

Can't get it to power up

If there is an input power fuse for your 120 volts a.c. I would remove it and check it. Make sure the cap seats correctly. If it is a new house to you please verify there is power coming out of the exact outlet you are using. Use a lamp or appliance you know works. If your "test" appliance works you may have bad amp or damaged in moving. If it, "tester"does not work you are not getting power to that outlet - check for a wall switch you may have overlooked or fuses/circuit breakers.

I had a bad speaker wire on my Pioneer vsx-305 and the 125v 6.3a fuse blew. Where could I find a replacement fuse?

You can get fuses from any electronic parts shop, such as Maplin (UK) or Radio Shack (USA). I would get a few, because chances are the fuse did not just blow because of a bad speaker wire! Fuses are there to protect the device from an overload (which would cause a fire). The mostly likely cause of your fuse blowing is that your wire shorted out an output transistor on the channel the speaker was connected to and the transistor is acting like a piece of wire now!
If you have an Ohm meter I would put it's probes on the terminals of the transistors on the heat sink. You will soon know, as it will be just like you have touched the meter's probes together!

Universal home theater remote for Pioneer VSX-305 audio/video stereo receiver

Don't spend a lot of money for a universal remote. Radio Shack has some good buys. I think you are the same person who is having problems with a 305. Get rid of it. You can make a quantum leap at Amazon for less than $200 for a Pioneer.
