The best solution to fix this problem is really simple. Only works on Ipod Nano or any other Ipod [Except Touch And Shuffle]. All you gotta do is:

1. Keep Ipod with the usb cable connected to your computer.

2. Reset your Ipod by pressing the round button and menu button at the same time and hold it for about 3 to 5 seconds.

3. After the Ipod reset is complete it should show the icon or itunes should pop up with the icon and your done. Works almost 100% of the time.

hold down the middle button and the Menu button until the apple icon came up on my iPod. At once, the iPod icon returned to my desktop AND on my iTunes window. Works great now. Just like nothing happened.Good Luck!!!!!!!

put your ipod in disk mode by following these steps.
press and hold the Menu and Center buttons on the clickwheel. when you see the apple appear, switch your fingers to the center and play/pause buttons.
whena check mark appears plug it into you computer and it should detect and mount.
add music and have fun.

My Computer and my iTunes do not recognize my iPod. The iPod will start to charge, but it never really charges, will recognize all other iPods!
1. Reset or restore your iPod for a try, this can fix many general iPod problems. 2. You may try this iTunes alternative, I always use it to upload music and video to my iPod once my iTunes can't recognize my iPod, my friends recommend it to me, it's safe and works pretty well, you can also use it to copy music and video from ipod to computer for backup, it's useful when you lost your iTunes library. 3. Update your iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod. I got this method from Apple technical support. Hope it helps. The itunes doesn't recognize my ipod classic
you restored your ipod correct? (just the music is erased) not format ? (ipod is zapped)....ok..lets play with the restore part...plug up ipod to pc....do not open itunes (close it, x it out) ...go to my computer you should see a new drive on it (ipod)....double click ipod and copy the software (from ipod) it should be 4 folders and hidden files too...paste it to a temp folder on the pc....now right click ipod drive and format it (yes this will erase everything on it)...once format is completed reinstall the software from the temp folder back to ipod......now this is finish....update itunes to the newest version (even if u have it already overwrite it)....you now have a brand new ipod...........

in the beginning i ask if you restored or formatted (if you had formatted, you would not find nor see any software)......you would be better off asking a friend/family if they have the same ipod can you copy just the software (you would copy their software to a temp file, then on to yours same as above) .........i hope this works out for u.....feel free to rate the help

Try this: turn off your ipod, hold the home button, and plug it into itunes while still holding the home button until a picture of the itunes symbol appears with a cable under it. itunes should say "ipod found in restore mode". This will completely reset your ipod, hopefully fixing any bugs or problems in it. also, you will lose all data saved on the ipod that isn't also backed up by itunes. Music, pictures, and video can be re-synced.
