Error 322 How to fix it?

There was a communication error with the receiving fax machine due to poor telephone line conditions.
Solution
  • Set the receiving machine to receive at a slower transmission speed
  • If the session fails after sending several pages of a large document, resend the document as several smaller documents.
  • Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.

I have an HP 8500A printer/scanner/fax. Everything works but the fax. I can receive but I can't fax out. I get error 348, 321 & 358.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!

Sir/Ma'am these error are basically due the Communication error of Receiving/Remote Machines. But each error shows different meaning. If during fax you receive the Error 348 then it may be because of several reasons like:-
  1. The remote machine failed to respond to a fax command from the local machine because the connection was interrupted. These errors can occur if the phone lines in the area to be faxed are old or there is noise,Other reasons can include power outages and other power-related problems.
  2. When The call-waiting service can cause this error or the remote user pressed the Stop key while the reception was in progress.
You can solve the Error 348 by the following
  • Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.
  • Disable ECM. Errors might still occur, and might result in a degraded image quality on the received page. However, the ability to send the entire document will be improved.
  • Try sending at a lower transmission speed.
If during fax you receive the Error 321 then it is because of:-
  1. There was a communication error with the receiving fax machine due to poor telephone line conditions.

You can solve the Error 321 by the following:-
  • Set the receiving machine to receive at a slower transmission speed
  • If the session fails after sending several pages of a large document, resend the document as several smaller documents.
  • Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.

If during fax you receive the Error 358 then it is because of:-
  • The remote user pressed the Stop key, causing the session to be terminated.
  • The remote machine encountered a system problem such as no paper or a paper jam. This prevented the fax from receiving any more pages, and caused it to terminate the session prematurely.
  • The call-waiting service can cause this error. The click, heard for an incoming call, is actually a momentary disconnect of the line.
  • The remote machine encountered an incompatible feature causing it to terminate the session.

You can solve the Error 358 by the following:-
  • Configure the remote machine for document reception by clearing any paper jams, loading sufficient paper, and clearing any other error messages.
  • Configure the local fax machine to use a slower reception speed.
  • Enable or disable the ECM setting.

I hope this solution helps you and you have clear picture in your mind.

Let me know if you have any confusion in your mind

Sir/Ma'am, Your Rating as Five Stars for this solution and Words of appreciation as Feedback for me will be really esteemed

Help with Sharp Fax UXP100 . When sending a fax they are going very, very slow. What should I troubleshoot? Thx

Check your phone line by removing fax and plugging a normal handset into the line socket and then listen to line. If a line has noise on it, it will slow transmission down, it can also cause wiggly lines on transmitt and receive, if this is the case, it needs to be dealt with by your phone line provider, just report a noisy line

Having the machine set to fine in transmission settings can also cause slow faxs, and a dirty scanner glass can also cause receiver image to have marks on received image but it is normally marks down the page

hope my good deed free for the day helps.

cheers

When receiving a fax I get either big black plotches all over the page or thick black vertical lines running the whole length of the page to a point where I can no longer make out any of the information...

Try making a copy of something or printing a transmission report or journal from the "reports" menu. If the same problem is apparent on these printouts, then your drum unit or toner cartridge need to be replaced

Black Vertical Lines

This can be caused by a damaged fuser or drum try to change the cartridge and if that does not resolved the issue then its the fuser

Printing problem

Are the problem prints all from the same source? If so the problem could be on the transmission end. Can you connect to your fax and print to it from a local workstation? If so print several images with dark solid patterns and see if it is actually the printhead. Try printing in cyan, magenta, yellow, and black colors to to rule out each individual printhead.
