Microsoft 20GB Hard Drive for Xbox 360 Logo

Memory I bought a refurbished 20gb hard drive along with a refurbished xbox360. This is my first time buying this system, but now my system tells me that the memory device capacity is only 13.9 and not the 20gb that I thought because the rest of the memory is being utilized for "system use." Is this normal? Will I have to format the memory device and delete everything in order for my device to show the 20GB capacity that I was expecting? Or does every xbox360 take up 6.1gb from all hard drives for system use? Thanks for the help.

How do i change it back to 20gb

> how do I change it back to 20GB.

What is it currently showing as? Zero?

Any 20GB disk-drive is probably _many_ years out-of-warranty.
Take a sledge-hammer to it, so that NOBODY can possibly read your data,
and then responsibly recycle the disk-drive.

Spend $50 to buy a new disk-drive with TWENTY times the capacity of your "antique" drive.

Recently bought a refurbished 360 elite. The system knows a hard drive is present, but it's listed as "unformatted," and won't let me use it to recover my gamer tag. Formatting it does absolutely nothing....

To make the xbox360 hard drive 'formatted' to the console you need to follow these simple steps.
1, Go to the system settings on the dash board.
2, Select memory settings and highlight Xbox360 hard drive option, do not select, but press the yellow or the Y button.
3, From the menu that appears, select 'Format' and the hard drive will then be formatted to the console enabling you to use it as it was meant to be used.
Other than that, you will need a new hard drive as the one they have provided is faulty.
Lesson learnt for buying the cheaper 're-furbished' product. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Gateway NV5214u doesn't boot

I'm sorry to have to tell you this but it sounds like your hard drive has gone bad. If you bought this as a factory refurbished unit you can go to gateway.com for help with a replacement hard drive, I can't promise how much help you'll get.
Otherwise, you can buy a replacement hard drive from one of several online computer parts sellers. The problem is that you'll have to replace the operating system unless you have a recovery disk. If you don't have a recovery disk be sure to order an OS at the same time or you'll end up buying the more expensive retail version. Estimated cost of doing it yourself $175-$300 depending on OS and hard drive choices.
If your not knowledgeable enough in computers to change the hard drive and install the OS yourself then take it to a friend that is, taking it to a repair shop will most likely cost you more than it's worth.
I hope this is helpful.

My xbox 360 not able to recognize my hard drive.

Well here are few solutions:
1. You might have a modded(Flashed) console, which microsofts new fix destroys your profile/HDD/Console, so everything is gone to waste.
2. Replace your HDD, there might be a problem with it
3. Just buy a small Memory instead of a whole HDD to replace.
4. Buy a new 360.

Hi i have just bought a toshiba satellite s1800-400 which said no software included that was fine but failed to tell me no hard drive!!! can you tell me if any toshiba hard drive will do or does it have to...

Toshiba Satellites can take any 2.5" IDE/ATAPI drive. You can use capacities from 20Gb to 1Tb and spin speeds of 5400, 7200 or 10000 rpm. You are not limited to Toshiba branded drives. I often install Hitachi or IBM (Hitachi OEM) drives purely for their reliability. You would also be well advised to make sure that the machines BIOS is up to date by checking on the Toshiba Support website for current Downloads for Drivers and BIOS before adding the new drive.

Also remember that with HD's you are well advised to buy a good quality product with the longest warranty available and shop around but be careful as there are many 2nd rate products on the market and most usually sold by on line traders. So ask if the product is new and 1st grade, 2nd grade, refurbished, short life warranted return, etc.

I want to transfer all my xbox 360 memory (gamertag, xbox live, downloaded content etc.) from my 20GB hard drive to a 60GB hard drive. How do I do this?

When you buy the new hard drive it will most likely come with a transfer cable which will enable you to transfer all of your saved data from one hard drive to another.

if u mean a memory card not hard drive just tell me again i ll sort it out

How do I find out how much memory/hardrive I have on my xbox

On your Xbox 360 guide go to the system settings. From there go to memory and that will tell you how much memory you have and let you erase some of it. Remeber say if you have a 20gb hard drive then it is not really a 20gb. It is acutally 15 or 16gbs. They format the hard drive to use it on the 360.

Xbox360

i suspect you bought the xbox 360 core version. this does not come with a hard drive and therefore you cannot play original games. since you have the 30 day warranty i'd recommend you buy either the premium (comes with 20 gb hard drive) or the elite (120 gb hard drive). or you can buy a hard drive seperately and install it, however it's very overpriced like all 360 accessories

hopefully that helps
