Question about Kenmore 5553 / 655532 / 55534 / 55539 Side by Side Refrigerator

My Kenmore side by side ice dispenser on the door freezes up!

My Kenmore side by side ice dispenser on the door freezes up and with in two days it's all blocked like an iceberg Inside where the ice comes out of the ice maker too. Someone said that it appeared like the flap on the opening of the dispenser is not completely closing and air is causing it to freeze up??? Can I get this fixed? Or replace the whole ice and water dispenser myself? And how much does it cost? Thanks

Bottom of ice dispencer freezes and wont let ice come out. It is a whirlpool side by side

Check the door flap on the freezer door , which opens to let the ice come thru . If this flap does not close completely , then it will let frost accumulate inside the ice bin , blocking ice from dispensing . If you had given the model number , I would give the part number for the door kit .

it sounds like you need to replace the gasket around where the Ice comes out. the outside and the inside air are making it freeze up

Probably the trap door where ice dispenses out is not sealing tightly causing frost buildup

Refrig Ice is freezing up on the door dispenser

Most likely the defrost timer or Adaptive defrost. Yours has the defrost timer. I want you to open the fresh food compartment and find a small opening through the control panel. The opening may have a plastic plug covering the hole to hid it. Remove plug and turn timer clockwise slowly until the compressor stops running. The compressor should remain off for about 25 minutes. If it does not turn itself back on then turn the timer slowly again to the right/clockwise until it does. If you need to restart the compressor. this way the timer will need replaced.Defrost timer is part number 482493 Keep me informed on your progress, Sea Breeze

Ice forming where ice comes out to refrigerator

I am not sure if this is the same issue or not. the flap that closes after you have dispensed ice does not close or seal all the way. The gasket is worn down. the result is warm air get up into icemaker and warms ice and refreezes in one block so now the dispenser gets blocked. We had to replace the flap in the door. bought the part at an appliance part store (not sears) they were helpfull and looked up the part needed. Also a sheet of ice forms on the bottom of the freezer. When water is dispensed a small bit drips inside freezer in back and runs down to botom of freezer slowly forming a sheet of ice. Use a hair dryer to defrost and then you must unclog the drain in the back at the bottom of ffreezer to allow it to drian. Once we finally unclogged the drain we have not had any problems for about 2 years.

check your ice dispenser door flap,is it coming all the way down?there is a solinard that opens and closes it,it might be going bad,if you can get in to it it might just need alittle lube,what make?let me know what you find-mike

Check the pin that holds the flapper in place.
I'll bet the plastic is broke that holds spring and flap inplace

check for water at bottom of door going in, if there water line in door or tank in door freezing. only fix to replace door. ck with dealer to get fixed under warranty
