You probably notice that it blows through the dash UNLESS you accelerate hard, then it's floor and defrost vents that gets the air.

It's a ~$40 dual action bellow sort of up over the gas pedal that is malfunctioning. You can put a band-aid on it by removing the kick panel over the pedals and then plugging the yellow line going to the bellow.

To replace it (per Volvo) you have to remove most of the dash! That's expensive and a pain in the behind, plus you probably will have rattles in the dash after.
OR you can cut a hole in the air box where the baffle connects and replace it, then patch the hole with the 'lid' you cut out and duct tape it back on.
Nobody will ever see it. :D

SOURCE: All Air Conditioning blows our the defrost vents

Some thing you could look at would be this. The control is usually fed by a vacuum line or small hose thats is connected to your intake manifold.
With a cold engine, look for a skinny vacuum hose that runs from the intake toward the fire wall . It should be going inside the cab and connecting to the A/C vent control. Some times the hose becomes disconnected or splits or cracks due to heat under the hood.
Thats usually the trouble.
I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: blowes air throught defrost vents only

its a problem with the switching mechanism. you have to look up under the dash to see if you can see where the switching mechanism is. if you can not see it from there youll have to remove complete center dash

Why does my 1998 ford explorer stop blowing out of the front vents and start blowing hot air out of the floor vents and defrost vents when i start up a hill but when i get to the top it starts working...

Y You should check the filter goes on the floor vent.has to be change, and just in case it is a machine special to check air conditions, but not every one have it,the manufacturer or representative seller garage shop, they fixed but expensive

The ac on my 1998 ford ranger only blows out the defrost vent and floor vent. How do I fix it?

Almost sounds like the actuators are inop. depending on which style you have, some are electrical motors and some are vacuum. These control the mode doors which move to deflect air to various vents.

The blower on my a/c on 2002 chevy trailblazer only blows from the floor vents and the defroster vents but not the dashboard vents how can this be fixed. Also, it only works on 5

It sounds like you have two problems. First a question though; Is your heating and air conditioning control on the dash automatic (has two knobs that rotate and a display screen in the middle), or manual (has two levers that move up and down for driver/passenger temp and a separate fan knob and mode knob).

In response to the vents being stuck on defrost and floor, from experience i can say that the most likely cause is the mode actuator has failed. If your battery has recently gone dead, that could have brought the problem to the surface. When the battery has gone dead, the heating and air conditioning controls relearn all the positions of the actuators behind the dash when the vehicle has been re-started. If there is a position sensor failing (which happens quite often) in one of the actuators, the heating and air conditioning controls won't be able to learn the correct position of the actuator and (in your case) defaults to the defrost/floor position.

The only way to fix that would be to replace the actuator. I would like to know what type of heating and air conditioning controls you have (manual or automatic) before i say anything on the blower only working on 5.

Air conditioning only blows when driving and there is water dripping into my floor board.

you need to locate the a/c drain hole and use a wire to clean it out.
