SOURCE: 18v cordless string trimmer will not stop feeding line

Some of the trimmers recommend a certain size line, if you have one of these that let line out as needed, the speed at which the trimmer cuts will let out line as needed. If you have too small of line the drag for the friction let-out you will spoll all the line out. Make sure the line is the right size, They come in alot of sizes, anywhere from .060" to .125" line thickness so make sure you have the right size line!

Please check your line diameter. If you are using stronger line than specified in the manual, it could be the root cause.

SOURCE: Replacing the string on trimmer

I don't think you have to get the housing off for replacing the spool purpose. Usually, take the spool cover first, and then you will be able to take the spool out of spool housing.

SOURCE: How do you Replace string on the trimmer head spool

Take the spool off and turn it up side down take out the centre and wind the left side 6 times to the left and the right side 6 turns to the right then put the ends through the holes and refit to stud and screw on butter fly nut...
Dont try winding them both the same way as when you try to get more out 1 side will come out and the other will go inside so you will be back were you started

Trimmer wrapped around shaft

Deborah there should be a little hole just towards the bottom of the spool head where you could fit a small metal rod in. If you can locate it push something small in like a 2 inch nail and turn the spool head slowly by hand until it locks up. The head should then undo . It will undo anti clockwise.

String does not seem to feed automatically frequently have to take the spool out to re thread through the lottle holes

These things can be very sensitive with how the sting is coiled on the spool. Take your time and try to get it perfect. Look at the pre strung replacement spools for an example. also inspect the lever, usually under where the spool sits. Make sure its not to dirty and moves freely. After that when you want it to feed quickly pull and release the trigger a couple times. If you dont want it to feed the when you pull the trigger be sure to maintain how far you have it pulled back, then release it a little slower than usual. Lastly wait a few seconds before pulling again. If this doesnt work the lever may be worn out and defective. But they are super cheap and easy to replace.

Need to replace the wirefeed? Purchased 8" orange

Hi gramcherry1...

1 Press the lock and rotate the spool counter-clockwise or some will remove the center knob.
2 Remove the locking ring if your weed eater has one.
3 Take off the automatic feed button.
4 Wipe away any dirt and debris.
5 Push down on the spool to release the locking tabs.
6 Remove the spool from the chamber.

Restringing the Weed Eater
1 Feed one end of the line into one of the holes of the spool, and secure the end that was inserted
2 Wrap the line in the direction of the arrows. Do this until until you fill the spool up with line.
3 Secure each of the lines into its own upper and lower grooves.
4 Re-install the spool into the chamber from which it was removed.
5 Pass the lines into the left and right holes and snap the spool into place.
6 Once the spool is in its sleeve and fed into its left and right eye holes, pull both ends simultaneously.
7 Reinstall the locking ring if necessary, reinstall the center knob.

The line keeps unwinding! The Worx trimmer seems to unwind the line when ever it decides too! What is the problem?

Hi,

The spool can be defective, but it may be just affected by trash in the spool where it mounts to the machine. Look at this tip. There is a place at the end of it that explains how to clean and lubricate the spool. If you cannot fix the problem with this tip, replacement is probably your best option. Try it first.

Homelite string gas trimmer Model ut20811A: 1. Will start with full choke and run with full choke for a while but will not maintain speed when choke is released. 2. String feed will not feed when taped....

If it only runs with choke on, then mixture is too lean or idle set to low.
Adjust mixture initially at 1.5 turns, then move in or out as needed for highest idle when warm.
Make sure no leaks or clogged filter when adjusting.

Hard to say with string feed, but are you sure you are not putting the spool in backwards?

Replacing the dual-line on the 15" Electric trimmer - Do you run the line through the slot on the casing before the outlet hole?

The slots on the string spool are there just to hold the line in place so it doesn't unwind while you are putting the string head back together. You have the strings sticking up, you lower the casing with the eyelet holes down, feed the ends of the strings sticking up through the eyes and then yank them free of the slots so they can automatically feed. So yes, line goes from spool hub to spool slots to casing outlet holes and don't forget to pull it free of the slots.

Is the string spool seated on the rachet correctly? If so and all is well, it is worth noting that these trimmers auto feed fuunction is problematic at best, requiring manually unwinding some line every few minutes as the unit gets older.
