Frigidaire dehumidifier fad704dwd is brand new. When I plug it in, the display lights for about 1 second, then goes black. On/Off doesn't work. I've tried 3 outlets. Each time it briefly lights then goes dark and cannot be turned on. I returned the first unit, now same thing with 2nd brand new unit. Suggestions?

I see that you have recently purchased a Frigidaire dehumidifier and the display is not working properly. When you returned the original appliance did they test it in store to see if it worked? Either you have some sort of leak and there is no freon pressure or..Your compressor wont turn on because of a swith or control isn't telling it to..Does the fan still blow?

All most all dehumidifiers have a defrost cycle to take care of this problem. However, yours is either not working or the air intake filter is clogged, which makes the unit strain to keep up. Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit, before attempting to remove the filter. Allow the unit to thaw while it's unplugged. Once it's completely thawed, plug the unit back in, turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON and set your controls as you normally do. Within in an hour or two, you will know if this solved the problem. Also, keep in mind, dehumidifiers are designed only to work in temperatures above 41 degrees. If it's below that where you have the unit, that will cause it to freeze up.
With all that said, what you're seeing as the Error Code is in fact, AS (the 'S' looks a lot like a 5 on the LED screen) It indicates a Sensor Failure. In your case, it's more than likely the Defrost Cycle Sensor. The Owners Manual says "Contact your local Authorized Frigidaire Service Center, if this happens. I'm hoping that cleaning the filter (if needed) and allowing the unit to reset itself (while it's OFF & Unplugged) will solve the problem. But, it may only be a band aide fix.

So I just had this happen with my Frigidaire fad704dwd dehumidifier. I went to basement and heard it running and sounded off. The compressor was running fan was off which is bad and humidity said 30. I then pushed the off button and it stayed running. I was able to fix it. To make long story short it was a bad ground. I took the plastic back, sides, and front off. There was a green ground (main ground) and Green/yellow ground (fan ground) on the front coil with a bunch of rust. Removed the grounds connected them both together and cleaned the surface area and used a new stainless screw nut and screw to remount the wires to evaporator coil. Everything started working fine after that and I put it back together. Good Luck
