I recently bought a Vulcan s650. The red oil pressure light comes on.

Have you checked the owners manual to see what can cause the bike to stop. It sound very much like the cut out switch to the side stand or clutch is faulty and is causing the engine to stop.

Engine won t shut off

I would check your wires in the dashboard the wire that sends a signal to shut off the engine may be sparking or cut if you do not know which wire maybe hire a mechanic or look it up.

Thanks,

The "red engine light"? I'm not familiar with this. I know there is a red oil pressure light on the dash. If you "engine stop switch" is in the off position, this light will not light up on most models. This should disable your starter as well if I'm correct. Still, if the ignition switch is on, engine not running, and the oil light is not illuminated, check the "run-stop" switch on your handlebar controls.

Oil light on - bike won't start

I will guess that your bike cut off when you put it in gear because you still had the kickstand down. That is normal, it is a safety feature to keep you from riding away with it down and crashing when you make a left turn and the kickstand hits the ground.

To check your oil you have a sight glass. Stand the bike straight up and down and have someone look in the sight glass, it is probably on the lower part of the bike on the right side. The oil level should be above the middle, but not covering the whole glass.

Try this process. Go out to the bike, turn on the key and put it in neutral. Check your kill switch, make sure that is in the run position. Now try and start the bike and report back with what happens.
Does it turn over but won't start?
Does it refuse to turn over?
Do the lights come on the instrument cluster for a few seconds, then go out except for the low oil pressure light (normal for that to stay on unless the bike is running.

06 Road King Classice shuts off when in 4th gear beloe 50mph

It's normal for the check engine light to take from 0 to a couple seconds to turn off. The computer runs a system check. Put an oil pressure gauge on the bike and watch it closely. If your pressure drops when the bike loses power, the engine may be locking up from lack of oil. Another possibility is your lean-angle cut-off switch is defective. The switch cuts power to the bike in case you lay it down. Harley also has had problems with their fuel injection system losing power for no apparent reason.
