Code 24 and 25 (blend door actuator)are showing up

Code 24 and 25 (blend door actuator) are showing up on the electronic A/C display. I reset this code over and over by hitting the floor and off buttons simutaneously then automatic, this was letting it work temporaraly but now I think its totally broke. I read online that you can access this blend door actuator through the instrument panel, but other forums say you have to pull the dash completly out. How hard of a job is this, and should a medium skilled mechanical person like myself attempt it.

  1. Disconnect the connector
But, you sure it's the blend door actuator?

Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module Self-Test
  • The EATC module self-test will not detect concerns associated with data link messages like engine coolant temperature or vehicle speed signals. A scan tool must be used to retrieve these concerns.
  • The EATC module self-test will detect concerns in the system control functions and will display hard diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in addition to intermittent diagnostic trouble codes for concerns that occur during system operation. The vehicle interior temperature should be between 4°-32°C (40-90°F) when carrying out the self-test. If the temperatures are not within the specified ranges, false in-car temperature sensor DTCs will be displayed.
  • The self-test can be initiated at any time. Normal operation of the system stops when the self-test is activated.
  • To enter the self-test, press the OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously and then press the AUTOMATIC button within two seconds. The display will show a pulse tracer going around the center of the display window. The test may run as long as 30 seconds. Record all DTCs displayed.
  • If any DTCs appear during the self-test, follow the diagnostics procedure given under ACTION for each DTC given.
  • If a condition exists but no DTCs appear during the self-test, refer to the Symptom Chart Condition: The EATC System Is Inoperative, Intermittent or Improper Operation.
  • To exit self-test and retain all intermittent DTCs, push the blue (cooler) button. The control will exit self-test, retain all intermittent diagnostic trouble codes and then turn OFF (display blank).
  • To exit the self-test and clear all DTCs, press the DEFROST button. The vacuum fluorescent display window will show 888 and all function symbols for one second. Then, the EATC control assembly will turn OFF (display blank) and all DTCs will be cleared.
  • Always exit the self-test before powering the system down (system turned OFF).
  • Intermittent DTCs will be deleted after 80 ignition switch ON cycles after the intermittent condition occurs.
Connect a fused jumper wire between EATC module C228 pin 26, circuit 246 (VT) and EATC module C227 pin 2, circuit 54 (LG/YE). Connect a second fused jumper wire between EATC module C228 pin 13, circuit 245 (BN/LG) and EATC module C227 pin 3, circuit 57 (BK).

Its alot of work, if that is even the problem I switched it and that still is not the problem. It is dead center above the radio but futher back in the dash and at the very top of the dash. Be ready to have tour fore arms scared up. two of the screws are very hard to get to and your gonna need a 8mm wrench that works like a socket wrench. If you dont have this dont even do it. I am still having the same issue after changing two of them. so, I am lost!

Pulling the dash is what you have to do! Anyone have any idea on what could be messed on my 2000 Marquis? 24 and 25 pops up but actuator does not fix issue. I even changed the blower motor resistor on the hood! and still all heat no ac. cold on pipes under hood and was pure ice when I had the dash down and moved the lever to cold from hot.!

I've had the reverse problem with heat only, no AC. I got the car from my dad who had Mercury look at it and they wanted to remove the dash to get to the blend door actuator. The first hint that it didn't need all that was there was no clicking of stipped gears coming from the actuator. I thought about tearing apart the dash so I unhook the battery. I went back to watch a video and I learned about running the diagnostic test. I reconnected the battery to run the test and the AC worked and that lasted over a year. The problem would come back periodically and I would run the diagnostic test and bam the ac was back. Yesterday I lost AC again and this time the diagnostic test did not bring it back. I got codes 25 and 24. So just like any computer problem you disconnect it for a few minutes. I unhooked my battery, cleaned the terminals while I was there and after 5 minutes, reconnected. it. I reran the diagnostic test and only code 25 this time. AC is working good again.

SOURCE: how to replace blend door actuator in a ford

I recently did mine, I hear you can do it without taking the entire dash apart but I had no luck with it myself. I have to get ready for work but, on mine it was located down and to the left of the radio. its a white box...are you hearing a clicking noise or something? I had to roll the entire dash back and it was still a major pain getting it out.

Heat blows cold on 2000 grand marquis changed cap thermostat checked relays blend door hoses flushed system

Are the heater hose from the engine compartment going to the fire wall hot to the touch ? Is the HVAC - heating , ventilation an A/C system manual or automatic ?
Control System Inputs-Manual A/C
Climate Control Assembly
The climate control assembly has three system controls:
  • The A/C heater function selector switch combines a vacuum selector valve with two electrical switches to supply battery voltage (B+) to the A/C clutch circuit and the blower motor speed control circuit.
  • Temperature selection is accomplished with a potentiometer connected to the electric blend door. Movement of the control knob from COOL (Blue) to WARM (Red) causes a corresponding movement on the air temperature blend door and determines the temperature that the system will maintain.
  • The blower motor switch controls blower motor speed by adding or bypassing resistors in the heater blower motor switch resistor.
Control System Outputs-EATC
A/C Blower Motor Speed Control
The A/C blower motor speed control is located on the A/C evaporator housing, in the engine compartment.
  • The function of the A/C blower motor speed control is to convert low power signals from the electronic automatic temperature control module to a high current, variable ground feed for the blower motor.
  • Blower motor speed is infinitely variable and is controlled by the electronic automatic temperature control module software.
  • A delay function provides a gradual increase or decrease in blower motor speed under all conditions.
A/C Electronic Blend Door Actuator
The A/C electronic blend door actuator is located on the top of the plenum housing.
  • Its function is to move the air temperature blend door on command from the control assembly.
  • The A/C electronic blend door actuator contains a reversible electric motor and a potentiometer. The potentiometer wiper is connected to the actuator output shaft and moves with the output shaft to indicate the position of the air temperature blend door.
  • A 5 volt signal is applied to the ends of the potentiometer. The voltage available at the wiper indicates the position of the potentiometer. The expressed value of the actuator wiper voltage is sent to the electronic automatic temperature control module and is matched with the wiper voltage of the module potentiometer. The control module then drives the actuator motor in the direction necessary to make the actuator wiper voltage agree with the control module wiper voltage.

Accessing the Integrated Diagnostic System:

Procedure for Automatic Temp Control (ATC) equipped vehicles:

With the engine ON and the vehicle stopped set the temp to 75*F. Next hold down the Floor, Mix and Defrost buttons until the ATC display begins to flash. While the display is flashing, the system will run it's tests and calibrations.

When the display stops flashing, the tests and calibrations are complete.

The ATC display can only display one error code at a time. Any stored codes can be scrolled through by pressing the Panel mode button once for each code. DO NOT press any other button or you will have to start the test over. Note the codes and refer to the list below to determine what system is malfunctioning.

List of Climate Control DTCs:
23: Blend door actuator feedback failure (bad servo)
24: Mode door actuator feedback failure (bad servo)
