This could be as simple as a bit of crud or corrosion on the little pins in the slot. Could be as bad as a bent pin.
Which ever it is don't start poking things in the slot, the pins are incredibly fragile. First clean your games off to make sure its not the game at fault. Then get a very bright light and look in the slot to see if there are any bent pins, if all looks ok then you could risk some very gentle cleaning of the pins. Remember those pins will bend just for the fun of it.
If all that fails and you are good with a soldering iron change the slot, its fiddly and you need a very small tip iron, about 0.5mm or less. Oh and patience but you only need to take the bottom case of to get to it. You will need a tri-wing screwdriver too.

When games are inserted into console they will not play

If you are inserting a DS card, be sure there are no foreign articles inside the slot. Blow into the DS card slot to clear any debris. Also be sure you are inserting the card all the way in until it clicks. I've also found that if you're powering on a game, and you bump, grasp or touch the ds card as the DS is powering on, that can cause it to not read games.

Check the actual DS card itself and carefully look at the exposed contacts on the circuit board. Be sure none of them are scratched, damaged or otherwise. A scratch can damage a contact, thus preventing proper data read.

If anything was spilled onto the DS card, be sure it is thoroughly cleaned with a damp cloth (no cleeaning chemicals!) If you immerse the DS card, or pour liquids on it, that may damage it as well.

Same points hold true for inserting a Gameboy Advance game (if you have a DS or a DS Lite. The DSi and DSiXL do not have Gameboy Advance slots.

If you turn on the DS and nothing happens, try a different DS Card. If it only happens with that one particular game (or games) your DS cards are damaged or need cleaning. If all your games are not playing, there is a problem with your DS. Try your games in a friend's DS just to make sure. You'll probably have to send the unit to Nintendo for repair, or take it to an authorized repair center.

How do transfer packs work? Will it work on a nintendo DS?

A Game Pack is the game cartridge you insert to play a game. GameBoy Advance Games are not compatable with the Transfer Pak. The Transfer pack and Pokemon Stadium 2 only support the following: Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal versions. No Ruby will not work with the transfer pak as you will not be able to insert it, and the software would not pick it up.

Corupted data on Nintendo DS Lite

is it definitely "any" game? Reason is that a lot of games are now suffering from flat batteries, the symptom of which is what you're saying, corrupt save data.

The only solution is to change the battery if thats the case.
