Usb tethering not working in samsung s duos with windows vista/linux mint??

Switch on mobile internet, connect PC with USB cable. In mobile setting>wireless & network>tethering & portable hotspot>USB Tethering

Switch on the Mobile Internet from the settings->Wireless & Networks->Mobile Network->Data Enabled.[note: Connect the usb cable to the PC. Don't use it as Mass Storage.]
Enable USB Tethering from the settings->Wireless & Networks->Tethering & Portable hotspot->USB Tethering.Now you can browse from PC via Optimus.

Have you tried plugging it to all ports on the laptop ?
Also, try plugging it to another computer/laptop to see if it is recognized correctly.

Settings --> Wireless & Network Settings --> Tethering & Portable hotspot.

Check on the way you want the sharing to work. Try USB tethering which should be the most easy to set up. Tethering will work with Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Linux.

If your question is specific to 'tethering' your phone to your PC - to have Internet service on your PC - also called PAM (Phone As Modem) I'll try to help. I've done this before with my Samsung Jack - before I sold it.

Go into your phone's menu and look for the connection settings (by whatever name it is called - maybe "Internet Sharing"(?)). Make sure that USB is selected. (It's been a while since I've used the Samsung Studio software - so be patient with me and we'll work through this together.)

If I remember correctly, some Samsung phones also require the USB drivers to be downloaded onto the PC. (They may not be included with the PC Studio software.) And, the drivers were specific to the operating system of the PC. (ie., Windows 32 bit or 64 bit OS).

Without knowing who your cellular carrier is, I can't get more information from the Samsung Website...but you can: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/

Also, if you are using AT&T your Internet sharing program on your phone may be locked. If it is, you won't be able to choose MediaNet in your Internet Sharing program on your phone. This prevents you from 'tethering' with 3G /4G for faster Internet access.

The issue you have is the 64 bit version of the operating system witch can foul things like this up.

What you can do is install the windows 7 32 bit version this will clear things up. So what we are talking here is a compatibility issue with the windows 7 64 bit operating system version.

I have investigated this with many tethered phones and do wish you the best of luck with this solution.

What you need is USB tethering.

USB tethering
You can set your device as a wireless modem for PCs and share your device's mobile network connection via USB.
1 Using an optional PC data cable, connect the multifunction jack on your device to a PC.
2 In Idle mode, open the application list and select
Settings ? Wireless and network ? Tethering.
3 Select USB tethering to activate the USB tethering feature.
Your device will share the mobile network connection on your PC.
To stop sharing the network connection, clear the check box next to USB tethering.

First of all you need to install the Microsoft ActiveSync (for windows XP) or WIndows Mobile Device Center (for Windows Vista) After that open the Internet Sharing, select USB and click on Connect. Now connect your USB cable to the Laptop, it shall install the drivers automatically, wait for a few minutes and after that you can use the Internet on the laptop via your phone.

connect your phone to your laptop, if you are running window vista you need to have window mobile device center 6.1 installed( free download from microsoft.com) if you have xp you need microsoft activesync 4.5. once you have that installed on your phone click on start and internet sharing. hit connect on the bottom and your done. * active sync does not have to be on while you are tethering just installed.
