I like to loosen the blade quite loose, then hold the saw by the blade and tighten the blade retaining nuts. This puts the right amount of tension on the blade without making it too tight.

This is a carb adjustment issue and needs to be rectified before using it again, the L jet on the carb is set too lean, if you cannot correct yourself i would suggest taking it to the local chainsaw shop.
most non professional grade or smaller saws are only adjustable by re jetting the carb. if they are adjustable there will be a low, high and idle adjustment on the side of the carb, however unless you have a portable tach and know the rpm limits or are experienced doing it "by ear" i wouldnt suggesting messing with it as youll more than likely burn up the power head.
Most Stihl carburetors built after 2000 have limiter caps that prevent much adjusting. the standard for adjustable carburetors is 1 turn out on both high and low then set rpm of idle and high end to specs.

there are two screws on the card of youy chainsaw one is the slow running jet the other is the full throttle jet start up saw run it till its hot adjust slow running jet first till saw ticks over ok then adjust fast running jet till you have full throttle,, start with both screw turned in to one and a half turns then adjust from there
