when using record now 9 Music lab in the audio record for audio disc selection. It also will shut down my PC on other occasions when a disc is inserted that was recorded on same pc by a HP cd writer plus 8000 series from mp3 on pc to disc.Havent had problems before and the same message came from using a sonic record now 6.0 software.Tried many different CD-R discs of different brands. It worked for a long time but now both or at least one has a problem and a conflict.Upon looking at the driver device manager I noticed the location says 0 (0) wheres as my hp 8000 series says its location is 1 (1) perhaps normal ? I cannot seem to remedy this newfound problem.Drivers are the same with attempts at update.I run microsoft xp pro media center edition version 2002 w service pack 2 on an HP Pavilion intel pent 4 CPU 2.80GHz w 1.00 GB of RAM.

I know your problem however it is easily fixed, the burner has worn out, the laser basically is not putting out enough light for it to work properly, the best and easiest fix, goto tigerdirect.com and replace the burner, they now start as low as 24.00 and go up to around 65.00 so it's not an expensive fix.

After warranty time expires (2yearsd) my LG LRY-517 DVD combo recorder/player start to make randomly disc reading errors. During half year things has going worse. Now the situation is that it does not play...

Use lens cleaner disk to run many times. It cleans the lens and also runs cd on the disk which eventually will get rid of moisture on the circuits and restore your dvd recorder on the LG unit.

You've got an expensive unit (see below for Press Release), with a built-in CD/DVD reader/writer.
Given that your unit could be six years old, it's possible that the reader/writer has "died".

It seems to be a "stand-alone" unit -- not something that requires either Mac OSx or Windows XP/Vista/7 to operate.

I'm guessing that _ANY_ IDE (not 'SATA') HP-brand reader/writer, provided that it has a "LightScribe" capability, could be purchased, and could be inserted to replace the "dead" reader/writer. For about $100, it's worthwhile to try this "substitution" to revive your unit.

Problem burning DVDs

This happened to me also. I fixed the problem by buying new DVD discs, sometimes the mac's rom doesnt like particular discs. Its a trial and error thing with which ones it will use. Make sure you are using the latest version of Roxio toast to burn with, also make sure your ROM is DVD-R.

If all this fails, it could be your writer in the rom. Try burning a CD, if that works it will be the above problems.

Try using discs with a GOLD BOTTOM, it seemed to work for me.

Not recognizing disc in D drive

Hi, well the short answer is NO. You cannot use DVD's in a CD Writer at all. So the simple answer is to get some CD-R and copy the files to them. OR get a Combo DVD/CD writer and install that as well.. and then you can use both..
