Kenmore Elite Calypso won't drain

I heve ths Kenmore Elite clothes washer that has worked fine for two years. Today it did not drain when the cycle was finished. It is showing the code CA and I do not have the book anymore. Does anyone know what this might mean? It is also leaking water on the floor. Thank you for any assistance you are able to provide. My kenmore Elite Calypso shows the code CL and the clothes do not spin out completely. I also see water drainage on the floor. This especially happens when It is a small load of clothes, but has also happened when it is a full load.

The most likely thing to cause the code and the leak is the water pump. If the shaft seal on the pump leaks, the water gets into the drain pump motor and shorts it out. The code is telling you there is a high current/amp draw at one of the motors.
You can see if the pump is leaking by tilting the machine back, removing the screws that hold the bottom to the front edge of the machine and looking at the pump. If the pump is leaking, you will need a new pump and possibly a new motor control board.
Post back if you need further instructions and we will walk through the repair.

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite Calypso won't drain

"CA" is an Average Current Limit alarm or error. It's an indication that the you may have a problem with the drive motor, thermal protector, or motor controller. Overloading the washer can cause this problem. Press Pause/Cancel to clear the alarm. If the problem persists, then I would suspect one of the causes that were mentioned. I hope this may help you.

My kenmore elite calypso washer won't fill up enough to get clothes completely wet.

It is possible that the machine does not start off the cycle because there are errors due to feedback from the inputs. For the program to start up the main program controller must initiate the INLET/MOTOR/DRAIN pump/ valve to open up and allow each function to be driven starting from the flow of water into the drum as also the drain valve to open to exit the water at the point of the program cycle. If this does not happen then the voltage at the valve/motor/pump must be checked or the fault relates to no voltage from the controller. This means the controller is a suspect.

Kenmore Elite calypso 21086 leaves dirt streaks on clothes

Run the hottest & fullest cycle possible - without a load - and add a grease remover - like goo-gone. Fatty tissues build up inside the tub - and can be released on hot cycles if HOT wasn't used very often.

It is recommended to run a HOT load every 2 weeks or so to avoid these buildups and staining of clothes.

Kenmore Elite flashing codes.

ob means out of balance and ld means lid not closed. so i would guess that you have a washer that is not draining or just needs the clothes moved around.
if you have a plugged pump it will do the same thing. make sure the pump will drain properly and then try it again. if it still goes out then try it with no clothes. that way you know its not hte clothes causing the problem.
recheck the pump and hoses. be sure it will drain the full tub or it wont work right.

Washplate problem Kenmore Elite Calypso washer

Hello genny2626
Welcome,

You said, your 6 year old Kenmore elite top loader's wash plate doesn't seem to go through its proper motions. When the lid is closed and the washer has filled and the agitating cycle begins, you can hear a vibrating noise as if the plate is trying to move on the gentle cycle, but when the lid is opened, nothing has moved at all. The drain and spin work fine, and the machine goes through an entire cycle without error messages, but the clothes aren't clean. You said, you have heard a lot of horror stories of how expensive these washers are to repair, so would like an idea of what's wrong beforehand.

Here are a list of common vibration noises

Noisy, vibrating, off-balance

Is the washer level? Does the washer rock when pushed
against the corners?
The washer must be level. The front and rear feet must be in
firm contact with the floor. Check that the locknuts are
tightened. See “Level the Washer.”
Is the floor flexing, sagging or not level?
Flooring that flexes or is uneven can contribute to noise and
vibration of the washer. A ³⁄₄" (1.9 cm) piece of plywood under
the washer will reduce the sounds. See “Location
Requirements.”
 Is the load balanced?
Evenly distribute the load in the washer basket and make
sure the height of the load does not exceed the top row of
basket holes. See “Starting Your Washer.”
Do you hear clicking or other noises when the cycle
changes from washing to draining or spinning?
When the drive system shifts or the washer basket settles
between cycles you may hear noises that are different from
your previous washer. These are normal washer noises.
Is the washer gurgling or humming?

Is the washer level? The wash load
should be balanced and not overloaded. The washer must be
level. The front feet should be properly installed and the nuts
tightened. Reset the rear leveling legs (if needed). See the
Installation Instructions.
Did you completely remove the yellow shipping strap with
cotter pins? See the Installation Instructions.
• Are the gears engaging after the drain and before spin, or
is the upper part of agitator clicking during wash? These
are normal washer noises.

Let me know if any of these are the solution!
