I have a jvc kdg431 radio/disc player. recently the speakers stopped working intermittently. They have now stopped alltogether. Ihave looked at the fuse on the back of the unit & that is ok .

I have had this problem before. The first thing you have to do is fade the deck all the way to the rear. Now turn the deck off and than back on see if you have sound now? IF not fade the deck all the way to the front and turn the deck off and than back on see if you have sound now? What you are doing is checking for a bad speaker because if you have a grounded speaker it will shut off the decks internal amp. You can do this though out the left and right as well to find if is a that. Now if nothing you do helps you might have to replace the deck. IF you want to get carried away you can check the OHM,s on each speaker and check each speaker to a ground with an OHM meter and if you have any speaker that shows a speaker lead that shows a ground start chasing that wire and see if it has a screw through it. Go all the way to the speaker. You will probably find a bad speaker that has shut off you system ?

Cant seem to axcess the rear speaker screws to replace them.

Are you looking from the trunk to the top of the rear deck? You are correct though in most factory installed audio systems, the size and quality of the speakers is unique and low quality. Generally any aftermarket speakers you buy will have to be bolted using holes that you drill in the deck. Also most car audio place will cut the deck with a saw in order to enlarge the holes for better sound. You may want to consider using POP rivets as fasteners for the new speakers because getting under the glass to use screws can be tough.

you have to remove the rear deck cover by folding rear seats down and pull plastic push pins out. there are four. once they are out the rear deack will pull off. Once it is off you should be able to see how the speakers come out. just replace them with the new ones and replace the rear deck and pins.

Speakers are thumping and cracking when powered up...why?

you are better off setting your deck speakers amp to a high pass filter setting on the amp. Adjust gains to increase desired bass and clarity. Turn off loud button if you have one, that will distort your deck speakers.
