May be duplicate... I have 2 Denon cdr-w1500 recorders. They both started the same problem at the same time. I just cleaned them with q-tips and canned air (no q-tip fibers were left inside the units). They both identify cd-R Audio blank discs as cd-RW and will not let me record. I have recorded hundreds of discs with no problems before. If i use a cd-RW Audio disc it will record properly. The cd-R Audio cds (Sony) that I use will identify and work properly in both my computer and a Yamha cdr D651 recorder. I have recently PLAYED BACK ONLY cd's that were non-audio and recorded on my computer (windows media player) with a few glitches. Any ideas???

SOURCE: Denon CDR-W1500 not recording

I had the exact problem and could not get any of the CR-Rs that I had to work. I looked up the code in the user's manual where it said the error means it's not a recordable audio CD and to refer to page 6. I looked at the front of the manual and saw that it mentions that the CD-Rs must be audio CD-R discs. I did some research online and found that there are in fact differences between CD-Rs that are just marked that and those marked as Audio or Music CD-Rs. I bought a set of CD-Rs that clearly had marked "Compact Disc Digital Audio Recordable" on the package. When I inserted this disc, I had no problems getting the recording to work. So, make sure the discs you use are clearly marked "Audio" or "Music". A computer burner won't know the difference, but your Denon recorder will.

To Determine CD recording problem: Track1 records and plays back O.K. Upon completing track2, display window flashes continously "Now PMA" (Updating disc contents) NO playback or sound on track 2.

It is possible that until you finalize the disc, the only track that will play is the first one. Unfortunately, once you finalize the disc, you cannot record additional tracks to it. You can verify this by finalizing after recording the second track and seeing if they then both play. If that works, you can safely burn additional discs with confidence that they are burning correctly even if you cannot play each back after burning and must wait until finalization to test full burn.

Vinyl recording turntable

The Denon will act just like a standard tape recorder. It should have an audio in, for recording. If that socket is connected to the audio out of a tape socket on your receiver, the Denon will pick up the signals that are sent to your receiver from whatever source. All you have to do is follow the instructions for recording on the Denon then. If you have lost the user manual for it, it's free on-line.

I have the Denon CDR-W1500 recorder and the recording side no longer functions. It doesn't have that many hours of use. The tray doesn't recognize a blank cd but both sides will playback discs. Your help...

Your original post said it was blank discs that didn't work.

Now it's ALL discs including pre-recorderd ones. THAT changes things considerably.

Is it audibly rotating the disc once it's loaded?

Cdr is not reading blank disc shows disc error

A few small things to try. Turn off unit, unplug for 5 minutes, plug back in, turn unit on.

There is a product called a cd/dvd lens cleaning disc. Worth the investment to have around.

Sometimes spindle dvd blanks have a few bad ones.

Check manual, might describe exactly what types of dvd blanks are best to use with the unit.

Just some suggestions, hope this helps.

10 COPYING PROCEDURE
About copying
Copying can be performed easily from the set’s CD unit onto the CD-R unit.
There are two copying speeds (normal and high) and four copying modes.
• The mode switches as described below each time the normal speed copying button (NORMAL) or the high speed copying
button (HIGH) is pressed.
• The recording level is automatically set to the default value (0.0 dB).
• The repeat and random play modes are canceled when the copy mode is set.
• During normal speed copying you can listen to the sound as you copy.
• During high speed copying no sound is produced.
• No signals are output from the digital outputs during high speed copying.
• During copying, buttons other than the CD or CD-R stop buttons do not function.
• When CD TEXT compatible CDs are copied, the disc names and track names are also copied.
When copying, switch the relay mode to the normal or dual mode. Copying is not possible in the relay or mix mode.
For optimum recording, make sure there are no fingerprints, scratches or dust on the signal surface of the source side CD or
the CD-R/RW.
The auto track function is always activated in the copying mode. It is not possible to assign track numbers manually.
Disc dubbing: In this mode, entire CDs can be copied onto CD-R/RW.
(“All Tr Dubb” is displayed.)
Make CD: In this mode, entire CDs can be copied onto CD-R/RW then finalized automatically.
(“Make CD Dubb” is displayed.)
1TR dubbing: In this mode, single tracks on CDs can be copied.
(“1Tr Dubbing” is displayed.)
Scan REC dubbing: In this mode, the desired tracks can be selected from CDs and copied.
(“Scan Rec Dub” is displayed.)
