Why will my Snapper riding mower not go into gear?
I took my Snapper riding mower apart enough to remove rust, paint it, and put it back together. I had to push into and out of the garage a few time. It looks great, starts and runs like a champ, but it will NOT go into gear- forward or reverse. There are no obvious issues-no obstructions, no shifter mechanism problems, etc.

i just had a cub cadet that you could barely turn it i took everything apart in the front wheels and found that the left wheel had rusted and was causing so much of a bind that it would not turn. i greased it and got it moving freely and put it back together and it works fine now. i hope this gives you an idea.
what kind of snapper... RER ( rear engine rider ) tractor style, model number will help greatly here because snapper has made mowers since the dawn of time !!!
does the drive pulley ( on the engine ) mesh with the driven wheel ??? the engine pulley has a specific height... this is the first test... also do not be afraid to stand this more on end... just take the battery out and shut the fuel off as well as the gas cap vent.
Usually the drive disc . Look under mower at rear, you will see a wheel with rubber ring on outside diameter. I think, it is four small bolts holding it on. Take off and replace, will usually solve problem.
You may need a 300cca battery, an ignition switch or a solenoid to get things going again. I also would check to make sure the starter gear has not locked in the flywheel teeth; it will burn up the starter. You should be able to go to the snapper website and put your model of mower in and find the parts and diagrams you need. Good Day.
