It is the direct access button, it (originally) is to run Dell utilities installed on the system. Generally it is ignored by most users. In theory it can be reprogrammed in Control Panel, Keyboard Properties, Direct Access Tab

I have a latitude c610 that won't boot up. Just green grass and blue sky with no icons

Has this laptop ever been hooked up with an external monitor or projector?

Try pressing the blue "Fn" key at the bottom left and the F8 key at the top of the keyboard. F8 should be labeled "CRT/LCD" or just have a little icon for a monitor.

If that helps, please be sure to rate. If it doesn't, post back and we can try something else.

Karen, to confirm where is the BIOS/CMOS battery located?

The C610 doesn't use a standard CR2032 CMOS Battery. Is uses Dell Part Number 5D566 7.2 volt Reserve Battery under the keyboard. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latc610/sm_en/rsrvbatt.htm#1000202
