My Whirlpool Ultimate II washer stopped running mid-cycle. It won't work at all, and it's full of water. If I move the dial to rinse, etc., the machine makes a noise similar to an egg timer. What can I do to get it going again?

remove the frame, pop off the two clips that hold the pump on and pull the pump off of the motor shaft, start the machine,if it runs you have something stuck in the pump.if it does run get a shop vac and remove the water from the tub, then remove the clamps on the hoses just push them down the hose with a pair of plyers then loosen one hose at a time so you can vac out the water, once you have all the water out you can remove the pump and see what's stuck in it,usually,a sock, womens underwear or a metal from a bra.if it's not the pump move the shaft on the motor with the plyers were the pump slides onto, you could have a flat spot on the motor and by moving the motor at the shaft might free it up,i've done this, some motors will run all the time after this or it could stop again on the next load, watch it and see what happens.http://www.youtube.com/user/RepairClinic?v=DwV71h86Gxw&feature=pyv&ad=5457341861&kw=washer%20pump watch video and it will show you how to get at the pump and motor.good luck with your washer
i would be concerned teh the door/lid switch is not being activated, or is loosing contact withthe swtch mid wash causing unit to shut off. unitll the lid is lifted and closed to make better contact.. tyhe activator for the lid switch is actually the underside of the lefthand lid hinge. so if your able toreah under the lid while open you feel the metal lever, as you push and pull hte lid youll feel the lever move as well. with a hollow shafted screwdriver/1/4 nutdriver. place the driver over the metallever andslightly bend it toward the rear of the uni, so it makes better contact with the switch mounted tothe underside of the main top assembly
You said, washer is full of water and will not spin. You hear the lid switch
clicking. When you start it on spin cycle and hear a hum, the tub moves a
couple of inches and then stops...shortly after it shuts off.
Some reasons this may happen Washer won’t drain or spinn 1. Is the drain hose clogged, or the end of the drain hose more than 72 inches (183 cm) above the floor? 2. Is the lid open? ............Also the lid switch can be faulty!! The lid must be closed during operation. 3. Is there excessive sudsing? Always measure detergent. Follow manufacturer’s directions. 4 If you have very soft water, you might need to use less detergent.
Sounds to me like the lid switch can be faulty!!Then it acts like the lid is open. Huuum
